Is it possible to cancel True Fitness Membership (12 month contract)

Featured Replies

My girlfriend signed up for a 12 month membership at True Fitness in Exchange Tower a few months ago, paying monthly by credit card. However, the monthly price is too expensive for her and as we now have a fitness in our new condo, she wants to quit.

Do you know how difficult and costly it is to get out of this contract? She already tried asking her credit card company trying to instruct them to stop paying, but they said it's not possible that she has to deal with True Fitness directly.

Also I wonder if it's very difficult, how about in the case of a medical problem, if one got themselves a medical certificate saying no sports allowed for the next 12 months?

Any experiences?

She entered into a legal contract for 12 months, so yes she cancel the contract any time you like but you will be paying 12 months of fees

Medical certificate is not going to help and the CC company is correct as well

So from a legal stand point not a thing you can do, unless you can appeal to their "sense of fair play" but wouldn't hold your breath, some sales person isn't giving up their commission

You sign, you pay. But make sure to actually cancel the contract immediately otherwise it will most likely auto-extend for another year if not cancelled with 3 months or more prior notice.

Contracts in Thailand are as useful as winter coats .

Call the bank, report card stolen , bank will

Issue new card with new number problem solved.

Alternatively , send email or fax to true not allowing any more charges, copy this letter to the bank. Under master or Visa card regulations , bank must stop allowing charges, but this being Thailand I would go with option A, report card lost or stolen .

True will call a few times and then all forgotten

New card not your account number stays the same, the debit is already in the system, it will just get carried over...just because your lose a card, it doesn't mean all your charges will disappear blink.png
Given your cunning plan I should have been running up THB 1.0 million charges on my SCB card every month, losing the card, get an new one and get all my purchases for free for the last 14 years...facepalm.gif
Your Visa/Master card Fax/letter cunning plan may have worked in the first month, ie a cooling off period, but as the OP stated its been a couple of months
Fact is the OP's GF entered into contract legally and approved the debit, there is no fraud taking place one suspects Visa/Master card will do nothing

OP stated credit card.

No doubt you are aware debit and credit are not the same.

Credit card number is your account number, and once card is lost or stolen, you get new card, new number ie new account number

If OP wrote wrong and it is a debit card, simply close down bank account and open a new one.

Nothing to do with fraud, or cooling off period. Master and Visa has regulations, if customer does not wish to be charged to credit card, customer needs to put it in writing, revoking authorization and charging company no longer has the right to charge,

It is up to charging company to seek alternative methods, of being paid

Most companies ignore it, and continue to charge. Customer files for charge back and shows letter revoking authorization and bank must reverse the charges.

PS, not sure if you playing silly monkeys with me or really do not have a clue.

Your purchases and on going charges are 2 different matters.

On going charges are very different system, if you do not know i am happy to explain, however if you just like to be a smartass, then save it for another day

Option A is the easiest, if not the most morally acceptable one but TIT.

Takes one phone call - True fitness will call you right after the failed charge, block their number - case closed.
