Mae Sai Border Run - Cost for Burmese Crossing

Featured Replies

Hi All

Doing a border run tomorrow to Mae Sai.

Will be driving up.

Was wondering what costs there are in crossing the border into Burma.

Do i need US Dollars or do they take Thai Baht for any fees they may have?

Any info Appreciated.

Cheers

JT65

They will take both US dollars and baht but the best deal is if pay in dollars. It is a significant saving.

Do you know the fee in dollars as opposed to Thai baht?

$10, a crisp one. They don't always want dollars, so you might have to stand your ground and insist if you want to make the saving.

Hey

Is it still okay to bring back DVDs and CDs from Burma into Thailand

You can bring in cds and dvds but you do so at your own risk. Apart from shonky copies you also run the risk of getting stopped by the customs officials. Big signs are displayed highlighting the penalties for bring fake items into the kingdom.

Most of the time the officials won't even blink an eye but you don't want to be in their line of sight if they have a random clamp down.

I did a visa run last money, as CMKiwi mentioned there is a slim chance that you might get stopped but I came back with around a dozen box sets of DVD's with no problem, probably my 20th time. The duty free shop on the bridge has some good deals on beer at the moment, 5 small cans of Kaiserdom imported German Beer for 100 baht, also 3 x large cans of Beer Lao for 100 baht.
