Did Anybody Have Similar Problem With Windows 10 When Resetting?

Windows 7 working just fine for me.

However, when I get a serious crash (which is only a matter of time on windows), I will most likely install windows 10....but not while everything is working perfectly well. I read in a forum, earlier today, of some issues using a VPN with windows 10. I would like to hear more about that. Good reason to wait.

I use ZenMate which is a free VPN from the Windows store. Works perfectly

I upgraded from Win7 Ultimate x64 to Win10 Pro about a week ago. The only problem I had was needing a new driver for my video card. I have a Sony Vaio. I've found some strange things, but all of them so far have just been differences of how to do things between Win7 and Win10. They were all easy to figure out so far. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Dom you mind telling us which model.

I have decided not to upgrade after seeing this resource.

No, and I never will because I own a Mac.

Aren't you are lucky one then. Not everyone can afford the high prices of Macs.

For what it is worth which might not be anything I upgraded Windows 7 to 10 on my HP. No problem loading and the system now runs like a dream. Anyone who operates Windows 8 needs to upgrade to 10 ASAP.

But anyone who values their privacy needs to avoid win10.

Hi,

I too have a Dell 4 year old laptop with Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit installed. Not only did Windows 10 not install properly, but it completely destroyed my Windows 7. Luckily I had a backup but when I installed this I had to reactivate the account. The legitimate Product Key failed to work so I contacted Microsoft who told me that this Key was no longer usable as it had been blocked by the manufacturer i.e. Dell. She suggested I contact them, which I did, but they were most unhelpful saying that they no longer supported my laptop as it was too old!!!

I now have an unregistered copy of Windows 7 Ultimate which appears to work ok and I shall continue to use it until the laptop dies wjthout feeling at all guilty. I shall never buy Dell again!!!!

PS I also have a brand new Acer PC with Windows 10 which works beautifully :-)

I would recommend Acer. I have had a few laptops from them having had Compaq, Lenovo and a few others all of which disappointed me. Like you my Windows 10 works beautifully on my Acer and it is a 5 years old 64bit

I wouldn't blame DELL for it. Mine is now seven years, an Inspiron and runs very well. DELL support, their website, drivers, etc.. and the three year free service is pretty good.

Acer are low quality machines, many of them get to hot, No idea why the installation of Windows 10 didn't work, but I know for sure that freaking Microsoft deleted plenty of files from my Windows 7 system.

Again, the most important thing when having a notebook, or PC is backup, backup and backup.......

All laptops have deficiencies. I have one Acer machine, have several computers, 10 years old and it still works perfectly. People need to forget about the price of a computer and look at the specification instead. Then decide if it meeets your requirements.

There is no more of a problem with privacy in Windows 10 than any other OS. You need to disable the items you feel intrude and work with the rest.

Can you be sure that what you disable is 100% disabled? Can you disable your microphone without disconnecting? Can you disable auto updates?

As much as you can with any system. None are 100% sure

Try connecting your notebook to your router with a LAN cable. If that isn't possible, you could try disabling wireless security on your router/AP until the install has completed.

I am in a small Apartmen block, about 12 rooms with no access to the Router, each room has its own access code. I will take my Laptop to my local Bar and try it there, thanks

Problem solved, went to the bar, tried again but the same problem, moved and sat next router and it connected and finished installing. For some reason if the WI Fi signal is not so good my Laptop won't connect but my IPad and phone do. A colleague has suggested buying a USB booster which gives you a better signal, not sure about that, any know of one and do they work ?

Here's the solution for you and quite cheap. You can use up to 5 meter USB cable to get the best possible signal.

It's only 200- 400 baht and works like a charm. You only have to put the antenna to the place where you get the strongest signal.Of course depending where the router is.

P.S. The brand is Tenda, it's a wireless USB adapter and I've used it for many years to get wireless internet from a hotel that was about 40 meters away from my house on campus.

And I had high speed internet. More than 5 meter USB cable doesn't work. Go to the nearest Advice shop, buy this adapter, plus 5 meters of USB cable. ( One side mom, other side dad)

.P.S. In addition, you might want to have a look here: http://betanews.com/2011/01/20/use-hidden-windows-tweaks-to-speed-up-your-internet-and-network-connections/

At most good computer/accessory shops, preferable Advice shops. ( The ones with a big blue white sign) Advice shops are in all provinces.

I Googled and found this. If you're using Google, you can translate it into English, if it isn't already the translated version.

I got my free download of W10 this morning but I have no time today to do anything with it BUT I have just done a Windows Image backup and I am also doing a backup of my D drive where all my data is to an external hard drive, just in case.

I must admit to misgivings about that also sad.png

Somewhat the same as "the cloud" for your data. If no net connection or cloud service unavailable (temporary or otherwise) you're dead in the water. whistling.gif Not a nice place to be.

Call me old fashioned if you will but I would rather be responsible for my data NOT trust to a third party.

Just a thought. If you have an external drive and use Acronis clone, you'll have each and everything back to how it was before. Works pretty well.

After downloading Windows 10 the HDMI port is not working, I have an HP Pavilion Laptop about a a year old, anyone have a similar problem ?

1 - Look in Device Manager to see if there are any missing drivers

2 - Check the control panel for the Graphics card (Nvidea?) and see if there is an option to switch HDMI on

3 - Check the HP website to see whether there are Windows 10 graphics drivers for your model.

Thanks for all the replies but have now re installed 8.1, all good again.

If you ever install 10 again, just look for the drivers for your hardware. I reinstalled a couple that seemed to have issues. Like my graphics card seemed not to performing well, and a scanner needed to be installed. I also reinstalled some programs like Firefox and Chrome, that were quick to do.

You download a new Operating System, why should you have to 'tinker' with other stuff to make it work, will stick with 8.1 until Mcrosoft sort the issues out. If they ever do?
