BANGKOK: -- The majority of people have no understanding of the charter draft that will be voted "yes" or "no" by the National Reform Council (NRC) on Sunday, Bangkok Poll says today.

Bangkok Poll, the research arm of Bangkok University, revealed the result of its poll conducted during September 1-3 from a total of 1,021 people from all parts of the country.

The poll revealed that 61.0% of them have no understanding of the charter draft, while 34.4% have little understanding on only some issues.

Significantly is that only 3.6% have profound understanding of the draft.

It said as the result of this, 91.3% of those polled would like those who have knowledge of the draft to explain to the people of what it will be of interest to the country if it is voted yes or no.

But 5.2% rejected the idea.

When they were asked whether they agreed if the draft will limit the power of politicians and political parties, 60.9% agreed, and only 20.4 disagreed.

However 52.1% disagreed if the charter allows a non elected prime minister, while 36.4% agreed

When asked further whether they could accept or not if the NRC says “no” to the draft on Sunday voting and that will delay the election, 57.3% said they didn’t mind if the delay means peace and order and no conflict in the country.

However 29.1% rejected as they wanted to see the country has election under the schedule stayed in the roadmap to democracy.

Asked whether what will be the main criteria for them to make decision if the charter is put to referendum after it is passed by the NRC, 40.8% said they will listen to recommendation by academics, 25.0% said they listen to families and relatives, while 22.7% said they listen to local politicians, kamnan and village headmen.

Asked on a last question whether they will supportb TTF he charter draft or not if it finally goes to referendum process, 44.4% said they will vote for it, while 21.7% will reject it.

But 33.9 % remained uncerrtsin, Bangkok Poll added.

The majority of people have no understanding of the charter draft.
The poll revealed that 61.0% of them have no understanding of the charter draft, while 34.4% have little understanding on only some issues.

That is not good.

Of course the government is trying to stop everyone who wants to talk about the new constitution. Only those positive to it are allowed. It's a shameful way to run a country that says they are a democracy when really it's one man rule.

...and the people who were polled were all members of the National Assembly cheesy.gif

Poll says majority of people have no understanding of charter draft

but according to a poll, 93.78456% are in favor of it.

Seriously, 315 Articles, 65 pages, a couple dozen new courts, councils, organizations, boards. What's not to understand?

It's just the latest handbill the Aristocracy has handed out for Act 20 of their long-running Lakorn "Thailand's Got [No] Democracy". (It ain't over until the fat lady sings.)

.. and I would bet my house that 99% of those most violently opposed to the charter have no understanding of it at all other than the simplistic propaganda they are drip-fed by those who want them to be angry.

TIT.

I'm sure that there will be no shortage of friendly (armed) assistants there to "show" them which box to tick.

Dont understand and don't care.....just how the General wants it....Operation f uck the Common Man succesful and complete.

Thailand has gone back 20 years in just one year...well done to everyone involved.

The mad monk must be very proud.

The survey also found that 99.99% of all Thai people were found to lack basic education in civics and Thai government, so that, even if they had read the charter, they wouldn't have a clue what it was about. The lack of basic education in these core subjects is due to MOE requirements that Thai culture be jammed down the throats of students ad nauseam, so the schools are unable to offer courses in more important subject areas.

"It said as the result of this, 91.3% of those polled would like those who have knowledge of the draft to explain to the people of what it will be of interest to the country if it is voted yes or no"

The fact this is an Amart Poll aside:

  • When they were asked whether they agreed if the draft will limit the power of politicians and political parties, 60.9% agreed,
  • 57.3% said they didn’t mind if the delay means peace and order and no conflict in the country.
  • they wanted to see the country has election under the schedule stayed in the roadmap to democracy

These alleged respondents wanted someone to explain the charter...........As in the confirendum, all depends on who does the vote counting and in this instance, all depends on who does the 'explaining'

What a pointless waste of money the new charter is. Something nobody really wants but are being frightened into accepting by the guys and girls in power.

Then what? A stupid, expensive onesided election!

.. and I would bet my house that 99% of those most violently opposed to the charter have no understanding of it at all other than the simplistic propaganda they are drip-fed by those who want them to be angry.

TIT.

So Mark understands it quite well but says no, Yingluk understands it and says no, academics understand it and say no, media and rights groups understand it and say no,

The PM understands it and says yes and tells people to vote for a constitution most people don't understand and not to worry about a few controvertible parts in it.

So are you in favor of people making uninformed decisions? And to just do as the dear leader tells then to?

Wouldn't it be nice to have the problem areas of contention explained in layman's terms? and without bias on live tv and news paper and internet? but that' been banned hasn't it, hhmmmm banned by whom???. Don't ya love it when a plan comes together = No constitution, no vote.

It said as the result of this, 91.3% of those polled would like those who have knowledge of the draft to explain to the people of what it will be of interest to the country if it is voted yes or no.

cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif deadset you couldn't make this shit upcoffee1.gif

Will they lock up the charter draft writers if the people don't approve it?

.. and I would bet my house that 99% of those most violently opposed to the charter have no understanding of it at all other than the simplistic propaganda they are drip-fed by those who want them to be angry.

Why is it not debated then ? Not debating the charter is at least part of what is fueling the lack understanding. Why is the good general trying to be persuasive without standing up to critics and asking people to ignore the parts they do not like ? And yes TIT, sadly.

But 98.86% approve of course.... And 1.2% is the illiteracy rate showing improved education standards already.

Yay. Be happy.....

At the beginning of the week the majority of people in BKK all approved of the charter, now we find out this is not entirely correct, the proper way is to provide copies at City Hall , temples or selected outlets for this to be read by people who want to check out the finer points, the others who are not interested can vote how they wish on the big day , however the opportunity to read the Draft must be given to the people. coffee1.gif

Why would anyone bother to try to understand something that is not going to work. It will be torn up and rewritten by the same people in a few years anyway.

Hmmm. I have the strong feeling lately that Prayuth put all his eggs in the 'Thai people love me for my gruff and direct manner, they'll pass the charter because it's mine' and now he's finding the basket has a few holes in it.

Obviously a red-shirt basket.

The process of debate is an unknown quantity/factor in Thai society/education system!wub.png

Process? Debate? Education System?

Are we all talking about Thailand?

They have no understanding of politics, letting alone democracy in general. What did they expect from that poll? A manifesto on PROs and CONs for anyone to understand? A sophisticated Thai computer programme, calculating any possible outcome if the charter is waived through? coffee1.gif

The majority of people have a very rudimentary education. How could you expect people with such an education to understand a document aimed at being passed into law? It defies imagination

Majority of people do not care about charter.

The tiny minority to benefits either way are the ones with interest.

It's interpretation lies with who ever has best interests at that moment

I wonder how many TVF political experts understand the "latest" version of the Thai Constitution ? For that matter, how many have even seen it ?

That they had no actual knowledge of it would not surprise me, or the fact they still feel qualified to comment on it. thumbsup.gif
