More rain in the Northeast, smog remains in the South

NONG KHAI, 05 September 2015 (NNT) - Haze from Sumatra wildfires still covers the southern region of Thailand. In the Northeast, water in Mekong River has risen to a height of 8.83 meters and keeps rising following continuous rain.

Repeated rain has also raised the water level in the 5 major dams of the country. Their combined capacity is now at 54.17 percent.

More rain reported in Bueng Kan Province in the Northeast, easing drought and increasing the number of fishes in natural waterways.

Despite some more rain in Satun , smog from Sumatra’s wildfires is still hovering above the province's sky. Locals are urged to heed the officials' warning to remain cautious about their health, especially on respiratory illnesses. Similarly in Songkhla, smog in the province started to dissipate but still dominates the hilly and seaside areas.

Energy Ministry mulls lowering LPG price

BANGKOK, 5 September 2015 (NNT) – The Ministry of Energy will propose its plan to adjust the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) at the meeting next week.

Energy Minister Gen Anantaporn Kanchanarat said the Ministry of Energy and the energy policy and planning committee would discuss the plan to lower the retail price of LPG in line with the global market trend.

The Ministry of Energy earlier last month reduced the retail price of LPG by one baht per kilogram or 54 satang per liter. The current LPG price is 22.96 baht per liter. The price of LPG in the global market has begun to fall since late last year.

Gen Anantaporn also disclosed that the National Legislative Assembly had been reviewing the Petroleum Act to fix loopholes that might put the government at a disadvantage. He said the modification of Petroleum Act was expected to be completed and approved soon, so that the 21st round of oil concession bids could begin no later than October.

According to the Energy Minister, the long-delayed oil concession bids should take place as soon as possible to ensure power security.
