Kasetsart University flyover closure set for 12 September

BANGKOK, 5 September 2015 (NNT) – Motorists and commuters are advised to get themselves prepared for busier traffic on Phahon Yothin Rd. as the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand is preparing to close the flyover at the Kasetsart University intersection.

Staring from at 10 p.m. on 12th September, the MRTA will close the 1.5 kilometer-long flyover for three years to pave the way for the Green Line electric railway linking Mor Chit in Bangkok to Khu Khot in Pathum Thani Province. Workers will also demolish the flyover during its closure.

The MRTA admitted that its decision would cause inconvenience to commuters and motorists as there would be only two inbound lanes and two outbound lanes left when the construction of the electric railway began. The MRTA said it was looking for alternative routes to alleviate traffic problems.

Road users said they had no choice but be patient with heavier traffic congestion and adjust their timetables. However, they remain positive that the city transport will be more convenient after the construction of the electric railway has been completed.

BANGKOK: -- The State Railway of Thailand decided Saturday it will demolish the bridge that crosses Ratchayothin junction to make way for an extension of the BTS green line.

After approval was granted to demolish Kasetsart flyover on Wednesday, officials went back on their word about Ratchayothin flyover and they will now build a tunnel to solve the traffic problems on Ratchadaphisek.

The original plan was to lift the BTS platform two meters higher so the line goes over the bridge.
