Yongyuth swears he is innocent

Former House Speaker Yongyuth Tiyapairat yesterday swore he had nothing to do with the murder of a key witness in the Shin Corp tax-evasion case and showed images captured by a close-circuit camera depicting a group of men raiding and destroying his four-storey house in Bangkok after the 2006 coup.

Yongyuth organised the press conference yesterday to counter the Justice Ministry's move to have the Department of Special Investigation look into the murder of Kornthep Wiriya, or "Shipping Moo" as he was known, who was shot dead on March 24, 2003. Politicians in the Thaksin Shinawatra's government linked the death with drug trade.

Yongyuth also said that he had given a foreign friend a copy of the CD, so it could be used as evidence in case he was killed.

He only played some parts of the film yesterday, showing his house being raided and destroyed by a group of men in black on September 20, 2006. He refused to turn on the sound, claiming that the voices would reveal who was behind it and cause further divisions in the country.

When playing the scene of a man removing his hood to talk on the phone, Yongyuth said this man was known in the military circles and if he turned on the sound, the reporters would know who he was talking to on the phone.

He said he had to produce this evidence because he was told that a government politician had linked him with the murder of Shipping Moo in Chiang Rai's Mae Chan District.

Yongyuth revealed that after the coup, a top police officer had gone to the Mae Chan district police station and told a senior officer that if he could frame Yongyuth, he would be promoted. However, he said, the officer refused and was transferred to the South. He police officer has only just been reinstated in his old post in Chiang Rai.

"Politicians ordered my arrest. I have lots of friends in the police force, so I want to warn them that such cases have a 20-year statute of limitations. If you produce false evidence to protect politicians, you will be held responsible. Politics is never certain. Those who instructed you will also die one day," he said.

Yongyuth said he was trying to clear his name in nine cases, including the one related to him getting red-carded, the fabrication of document to apply as People Power Party and the shares transfer case.

He said he was forced to produce this CD because his back was against the wall.

"Do not corner me like this. I am suffering from the way the military treated me. I was not angry when they detained me without any charges. Then they raided and destroyed my house. What comes next?" he asked.

When asked why he had not taken his case to the courts, Yongyuth said he did not know who he could depend on.

He said he could seek justice through international agencies if he wanted, though he would have to die before he could reveal the voice of the man in the CD.

A few, but not all, of Yongyuth's nine charges he faces are in the thread:

Deputy Leader Of The People Power Party To Stand Trial For Attempted Murder, Former Thaksin Cabinet Minister and 7 Police Officers accused

One thing is for sure. Nobody believes the death of shipping moo was anything to do with the drug trade.

Considering where shipping moo was muredered and assuming it wasnt unconnected with giving evidence in a court case, it is amazing to anybody with any understanding of the north that Yuth has never been thought of before. This case will no doubt have a few more turns and twists.

This reaction by Yuth is almost deranged accept for the bit threatening revenge on anyone who dares move agianst his mightiness. A rumour that he may be involved and he loses the plot completely and comes up with a video (considering the one of him buying votes had to be verified before it was accepted maybe he should have the same done to his one;)) showing some dudes in masks smashing up his house and make dramtic phone calls to the unnameable!

It would be good for the north of Thailand if this man and his family were taken down. However, it should be done by legal means. In the meantime he is doing a pretty good job of making a complete idiot of himself. More likely though a deal will be done and maybe that is the aim. Lots of people "know" why shipping moo was killed and who it benefitted. However, more information, more witness staements and more evidence are needed. Now though there is a will to proceed in this case and with many recognizing that Thaksin is gone there is a lot more opportunity for it to reach conclusion. Lets hope th epressure continues until legal conclusion is reached.

On the accusation that former House Speaker Yongyuth Tiyapairat could be linked with the murder of Kornthep Wiriya, a witness in the Shin Corp tax-evasion case, Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban said on Tuesday the government did not attempt to mistreat anyone. He said Yongyuth can file his complaints to international organisations, if he believes he is being violated.

'Shipping Moo' visits NCCC

The opposition has accused Suchart of failing to take action over the alleged corruption committed by the two companies.

Kornthep was accompanied by Democrat MP Sirichok Sopha (Songkhla), who said Kornthep had been cooperative, but was concerned about his safety.

It's easy to understand Sirichok's personal involvement as he was with the prosecution witness since 4 years previously... when he was still alive.

Yongyuth making hasty attempt to foil the murder investigation: Sirichok

Democrat MP Sirichok Sopha on Tuesday reminded former House Speaker Yongyuth Tiyapairat to allow justice to run its course instead of trying to tamper with the investigation into the Shipping Moo murder.

"Yongyuth should not rush to cry foul for being framed," Sirichok said, reacting to Yongyuth's emotional press conference on Monday.

Yongyuth should allow police to complete the report because his hasty comments might be construed as an attempt to create a distraction which would not be in his best interest, he said.

Yongyuth claimed that authorities were trying to frame him as culprit for the murder of Kornthep "Shipping Moo" Wiriya in 2002.

The murder has remained unsolved and the Abhisit Vejjajiva government has instructed police to crack the case.

Kornthep was killed in Chiang Rai, seen as the stronghold of Yongyuth, after he provided key evidence for Sirichok to censure the Thaksin Shinawatra government. The censure was about the tax evasion involving Shin Satellite, then part of the business conglomerate under the control of Thaksin's family members.

This is starting to get close to very nasty people. If this runs the course through Thai court to a muder conviction of whoever actually was involved, that will be a big step forward for Thai justice. However, if we can get there without attempted intimidation of witnesses and police it will be surprising. After all that is what this case was intially about.

Kornthep Viriya, known as "Shipping Moo", had accused Shin Satellite, a company previously owned by ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra's family, of evading customs tax. He was shot dead in Chiang Rai.

Democrat MP Sirichoke Sopha, who used information from Kornthep in the censure debate, said yesterday the man had told him that if he got killed, there would be two politicians responsible for his murder.

"Yongyuth should not start complaining now. He should allow the justice system to take its course and should not try to pressure [against any action]," he said.

Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban questioned yesterday why Yongyuth had decided to play the video now and not when his party was in power.

The un-spoken 800lb gorila is

Thaksin's family still owned the company at that time.

So IF this really goes up the chain of command, where does the REAL buck stop...

Who was protecting whom here???

And WHO could be named in that video disk?

Which direction is the threat to name names aimed at really???

Shipping Moo was a source of potential criminal actions against the REAL boss,

or at least serious fines and public loss of BIG face for said public figure in power,

not the political underling who 'may or may not' have give orders on his leaders behalf,

even if said leader gave no EXPLICIT orders as such.

What was being protected, but the obvious action to silence Shipping Moo?

Ratchada may not be the REAL reason to depart....

But waiting for the rats on the sinking ship to roll over for a shorter term

since the candyman is pretty much out of bon bons.
