Former energy minister summoned for attitude change session

BANGKOK: -- Former energy minister Pichai Naripthaphan was summoned by the First Army Region for attitude adjustment yesterday after he criticised the government's economic policy if the general election is put off.

Matichon reported that two military officers from the First Army came to pick him up at his Pratunam home at 9.30 am for the attitude change session.

However Mr Pichai chose to drive his car to the First Army headquarters instead with an Army vehicle escorting to the place.

It was the seventh time that he was summoned to the session.

In this latest summon, he commented that the government would face even more trouble in solving economic problems if the election is put off.

Matichon quoted military source as saying that Mr Pichai might be required to attend the attitude adjustment session longer, or up to a week, as he remained tough on his inappropriate comment.

He might be sent to an Army barrack in Saraburi for the attitude change course and would be freed after finishing a week long session, Matichon quoted the military source as saying.

such sessions would harden anti-government attitudes rather than change them

Well (as some who have experienced these have commented) the threats to freeze assets, get fired from jobs, threats to any/all family, seem to bring most into line.

One assumes this chap is somehow impervious to the normal threats.

Just wondering since it's attitude adjustment number seven for this bloke, do the people doing the attitude adjusting change tactic, strategy, or something other than you have to stay longer when those that keep having the audacity to voice their opinion that isn't to the liking of the junta?

Like the infamous US line, "Enhanced Interrogation technique's" I'm Just askingwhistling.gif

Am I the only one thinking this attitude adjustment camp is extremely sinister?

It just means a slap on the wrist.....

And you know this to be the case? You have inside information. Or is this just an opinion. Opinions can be "adjusted".

Just more proof the self imposed unelected Ex-General, PM, wants a society more akin to repressive Communist China than any form of Democracy.

Even the British realise Thailand is becoming South East China and sent their ex Chinese ambassador to fill the vacant position.

Don't you know that everything the junta does is excused by the existence of the bogeyman in Dubai????

What an idiotic comment. Why do some people have to bring him into everythingbah.gif . He gone. move on.

It is not blind obedience. Wrong is wrong simple as that and justifying any action because of someone else is pathetic.

I have it on good authority that session number one consists of a comfy chair, a cup of tea, some Mr Kipling cakes and a nice chat about the weather until the full horror of session number 7 is revealed. A live 10 hour one to one concert with Kenny G. I'd crack within seconds.

FORMER ENERGY MINISTER
Pichai summoned by junta for attitude adjustment

The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Former energy minister Pichai Naripthapan has been summoned by National Council for Peace and Order for attitude adjusting after he was seen making public comments to discredit the government and NCPO, NCPO spokesman Col Winthai Suvari said Thursday.

He said Pichai was seen using incomplete information to mislead the society to lack confidence in the works of the government.

Pichai’s comments did not comply with the condition set by the NCPO, Winthai said.

Winthai said Pichai’s comments were based on personal attitude and several times he could not prove what he had said.

The spokesman said it would depend on Pichai’s cooperation as to how long he would be detained for the attitude adjusting.

Junta to Hold Politician ‘Until He Cooperates’
By Khaosod English

BANGKOK — The ruling military junta said today former minister Pichai Naripatapan’s latest detention in an army camp – his seventh since the coup – will only end when it deems him to be “cooperative.”

Soldiers showed up to take Pichai away from his home in Bangkok’s Pratunam area yesterday morning and placed him in indefinite military custody at an army camp for “attitude adjustment” due to his criticism of the junta’s economic policies, junta spokesman Winthai Suvaree confirmed today.

“It was necessary to invite Pichai to exchange opinions and reach some understanding with us, in accordance with our usual measure of maintaining peace and order,” Winthai said today, using junta euphemisms for involuntary detention of dissenters. Recenty, Pichai started to express his opinion in violation of the conditions that we asked him to cooperate with.”

Answering a reporter who asked when Pichai – who served as energy minister under the previous government – would be released from custody, Winthai said, “Officials will attempt to create understanding with him. How long it takes depends on his cooperation, and on the judgement of the responsible officials.”
