China asked to help track down Ishan



BANGKOK: -- China has been asked to help track down the alleged bombing mastermind Abudureheman Abudusataer or Ishan who was reported to have left Bangladesh for China, said Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha Friday morning.

He said that the government would approach every government for help if the suspect was reported to have gone to any country.

But whether the suspect can be extradited to Thailand for trial or not would depend on whether there is an extradition treaty between Thailand and that particular country, the prime minister explained.

Quoting Bangladeshi national police office, a foreign news agency reported that Ishan arrived in Dhaka on August 16 – one day ahead of the bombing at Erawan Shrine – by Bangladesh Airline’s flight BG0089. He stayed in the Bangladeshi capital for two weeks before leaving for China on August 30 by Jet Airways with a Chinese passport.

BANGKOK — Junta chairman and Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha confirmed that the man suspected of directing last month’s bomb attack that killed 20 people in Bangkok is hiding in China.

Prayuth said Thailand will ask China to locate and extradite Chinese national Abu Dustar Abdulrahman, aka “Izaan,” who left Thailand one day before the attack and traveled to China by way of Bangladesh.

“We have already contacted Chinese authorities, we will coordinate with every nation,” Prayuth said.

A Bangladeshi police official told Reuters the man carried a Chinese passport identifying him as Abu Dustar Abdulrahman.

Abdulrahman is believed to have left Thailand on 16 Aug. and flown to the Bangladeshi capital of Dhaka. He stayed there until 30 Aug., flying to Beijing one day after the first break in the case led police to conduct raids and make an arrest.

Police have identified Abdulrahman, aka Izaan, as the ringleader of the network responsible for the 17 Aug. bombing at Erawan Shrine in downtown Bangkok.

Prayuth said Chinese authorities would first have to arrest Abdulrahman before extradition proceedings could be undertaken.

If they want a country to extradite him they will need to do more than just make him a suspect. Hell, every foreigner is a suspect to this government.

If Thailand engages the assistance of the World Wide agencies that used all their sophisticated knowledge used in tracking down Bin Laden, it's going to take a very long time. Even then it'll need just a lucky break, as a the suspicion of a local courier who found him.

I'm still a bit skeptical that this guy was actually traveling to Beijing, since he was going to India on Jet Airways (from Dhaka, that is the only option on Jet Airways).

However, even if he did go to Beijing, he is now going to be difficult to trace. It's unlikely he is sitting around like the moron "Suspect #1", who was picked up in the apartment outside Bangkok sitting in a pile of pipe fittings and ball bearings.

If it was ISIL then they would likely have claimed responsibility. Thailand is hiding the fact that this was a terrorist attack (as stupid as that is to try and deny) but I seriously doubt ISIL had anything to do with it.
