DSI seizes more than 10 million baht worth of pirated auto accessories

BANGKOK, 12 September 2015 (NNT) - During a raid in Nonthaburi Province, the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) confiscated a large number of car accessories and other pirated items worth more than 10 million baht.

Director General of the DSI Suwana Suwanjata announced in a press conference that DSI officials have seized a total of 13,098 pirated items belonging to AO Safety Company situated in Pak Kret District of Nonthaburi. Along with the confiscated items, a man named Chuchai Sutthisongtham, believed to be the owner of the company, was also apprehended.

According to the director general, the combined value of items violating intellectual property rights is around 10 million baht.

Mr Chuchai will be charged under the violations of intellectual property rights and could face further prosecution according to the judicial system.

Ms Suwana said piracy has done a great deal of damage to Thailand while international community is monitoring the efforts of Thai authorities to eradicate such violation.

No these things are not pirated: "Piracy is typically an act of robbery or criminal violence at sea".

He just produced parts that look like parts with protected design.....No violence involved and most probably on land.

Hi h90

I appreciate Wikipedia is not always correct but they appear to be quite happy with the term

A pirate is a person who commits warlike acts at sea without the authorization of any nation.

Pirate or piracy may also refer to:

Criminal or unauthorized acts

Forget about the companies manufacturing the copied stuff, big money, 'influential people', hmm...! Same as the s..t drug couriers getting caught, but NEVER the producers or wholesalers, for the same rule, ...and possibly for quite some a uniform (brown, green, white, ..., your pick) and a lot of brass on the shoulders. There's corruption everywhere, even in Switserland and Norway, but here, when not a Kingdom, it'd be the worst of banana republics, as corruption 'has become' (HM the King Rama III failed in his attempt to turn the tides) 'the system', plain and all! When I would not have 'a foot in the ground' here (real estate...) I'd have left, fast, after understanding how rotten it is ...outside Denmark!
