Legendary act Bon Jovi plays a surprise concert in Bangkok on Tuesday after China dates are cancelled

BANGKOK: -- Fans of American rock group Bon Jovi are in for a pleasant surprise, as the band announced a show date in Bangkok on Tuesday.

Bangkok was not originally included in this Asia leg of the tour but was just added last week after the band's two shows in Shanghai and Beijing were abruptly cancelled due to "unforeseen reasons". The hastily arranged concert in Bangkok is organised by Live Nation BEC-Tero and will be held at Impact Arena Muang Thong Thani. The occasion will mark the long-overdue return of Bon Jovi to Bangkok after their only show back in 1995 at Thai Army Stadium.

"It's great to be back here again and we find it's important to do what people enjoy," said lead singer Jon Bon Jovi at Sunday's press conference at the Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel. "We'll be doing hits, as well as some new songs like We Don't Run. Wear comfortable shoes and warm up your voice because you'll be dancing and singing a lot. We appreciate the enthusiasm and we can promise you that we'll give our all. See you on Tuesday!"

Drummer Tico Torres added: "We love you guys. We're glad to be back."

The band now consists of Jon Bon Jovi, Torres and keyboardist David Bryan, as guitarist Richie Sambora left the group in 2013.

Led by iconic frontman Jon Bon Jovi, the legendary band has produced 12 studio albums and sold more than 130 million records worldwide. The band has achieved the status of rock royalty, due in large part to their exhilarating concert experience. They have performed over 2,900 concerts and been recognized with 21 music awards, including wins at the Grammys, Billboard Music Awards, American Music Awards and MTV Video Music Awards.

Internationally celebrated thanks to their catalogue of chart-toppers, Bon Jovi has tasted success for over 30 years. Fans will be treated to an unforgettable night of international hits, including Livin’ on a Prayer, You Give Love a Bad Name, It’s My Life, Have a Nice Day and many more.

Bon Jovi performs at Impact Arena Muang Thong Thani on Tuesday. Tickets from 2,000 to 6,000 baht are available at Thai Ticket Major. Visit www.ThaiTicketMajor.com.

Thai pilgrim killed in crane tragedy, two missing

THE NATION

BANGKOK: -- A THAI pilgrim was confirmed to have been killed while two others remain missing after a construction crane collapsed amid stormy weather at the Grand Mosque of Mecca in Saudi Arabia on Friday, Culture Minister Vira Rojpojchanarat said yesterday.

The tragedy, which took place days ahead of the annual haj pilgrimage, claimed 108 lives and wounded more than 230 others.

A third statement by the Office of Haj Affairs of Thailand, issued at 1am yesterday, said it and the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Jeddah had been |trying to locate three Thais |at hospitals in Mecca who |had been missing since the tragedy.

They later found the body of Thai Wanida Sadi, 48, from Bangkok at the Al-Muaisim morgue, so they will contact her relatives and the Saudi Arabian authorities to proceed on burial and the issuing of a death certificate.

Vira, citing an update from the head of the Religious Affairs Department Kritsayapong |Siri, said Thai officials and their Saudi Arabian counterparts |were looking for two missing Thais.

On Saturday, the ministry reported that two Thais were among the injured: Maeyoh Taemo, 47, a woman from Pattani; and Sama-ae Shazu, 48, a man from Yala, both of whom were later handed over to a medical team at the Royal Thai Embassy.

The Religious Affairs Department has set up two numbers - 094-9520668 and 094-9158257 - for relatives to inquire about Thai pilgrims in Mecca.

HM the King has fever

IMG_20150913_215346-wpcf_728x413.jpg

BANGKOK: -- His Majesty the King has fever but blood pressure has returned to normal and he can drink some water, said the Royal Household Bureau regarding the King’s latest health condition.

In the 16th announcement on Sunday, the bureau said that HM the King’s condition has steadily improved after he was admitted to Siriraj hospital on September 3 for treatment of right lung inflammation from bacterial infection.

However, on Saturday, HM the King had fever and the level of oxygen in the blood dropped and pulse rate slightly increased although blood pressure was normal, said the bureau.

Blood tests showed infection and X-ray confirmed inflammation of the left lung. Cultures of the saliva from the air tube on September 3 showed several bacterial strains. The cause of lung inflammation was believed to come from aspirated pneumonitis.

Doctors have administered anti-biotics and food intravenously. Oxygen was also administered to maintain normal level of oxygen in the blood along with physical rehabilitation to force out saliva, according to the Royal Household Bureau.’
