Yingluck calls for practical and acceptable charter
THE NATION

Former PM Yingluck Shinawatra, who was previously a committee member and secretary of the Thaicom Foundation, poses yesterday with Shinawatra University graduates who received a scholarship from the foundation.

BANGKOK: -- THE next group of charter drafters should make the new constitution more practical and acceptable to the public, former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra warned yesterday.

They should heed the proposals of academics and practitioners, she told a graduation ceremony for Thaicom Foundation scholarship fellows. Reform could also be accepted, implemented and realised, she said.

Niran Pantarakit, a former member of the National Reform Council, said that if the government amends controversial Article 37 of the provisional charter, it should also include a proviso for the 2007 charter to be adopted in the event that no charters can pass a national referendum.

Suriyasai Katasila, deputy dean of Rangsit University's Social Innovation College and director of the Thailand Reform Institute, said the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) should recruit only new faces for the next charter-drafting panel.

The new members should have a vision for reform, a knowledge of the drafting process and an understanding of the local and world situations.

The composing of the charter should be open to the public to give comments and not limited to only the 21 members.

The members of the last charter drafting group should not be on the new panel because the public would think that the NCPO was trying to keep the contentious points that were included in the rejected draft, he added.

Somchai Srisuthiyakorn, an election commissioner, said his main worry about the implementation of the reform road map was that the mind-set of civil servants had not changed.

They will not play a role in pushing through the reform initiatives because they are order-oriented, so the bureaucracy should be reformed first, he said.

Besides the negative criticism so far here on TV Forum , former Prime Minister Yingluck is just as entitled to put forward her and those views by her P.T. Party as anybody else and if the critic' s of the former P.M. here in the Forum want to ,through their Thai partners or friends , they can offer up constructive views also , for a better constitution for Thailand. coffee1.gif

What it should actually read

THE next group of charter drafters should make the new constitution more practical and acceptable to us politicians, former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra warned yesterday, so that we can continue to thieve - abuse power - lie - cheat - pretend we are PM - change everything to pave the way for my criminal brother to return to Thailand a free man with all his billions intact that he extorted from the Thai people

Who knew that this future convict, or fugitive, had real ideas of her own. Perhaps she should have done something other than shop, travel and try to get her family and friends an amnesty for all their crimes when she was PM.

Now only if she can follow up on this and get the other members of her party to offer constructive criticism instead of just pushing a one sided agenda. It'd be great if both political parties could sit down with the junta and try to hammer this out. Not easy, but it'd be a start. Color coded politics need to take a back seat for the betterment of the Kingdom. I know, I know...good luck! LOL

A cynic might suggest that many here believe she has no right to say anything, as she does not have a willy!

Sit down, shut-up and go shopping.

I hope any and all corruption related to this family will go away, but then again I believed in Santa Claus and The Tooth Fairy !!

Why is it O.K. for you to speak and not her? If there was no interest in the woman, there would be no reporting on what she said. Let the press decide.

"...entitled..."

"...have good ideas..."

Given their past track record and their lack of any discussion about policies to bring about a better quality of life for all Thais / equal opportunities / better education / equal application of the law / and their lack of respect for the law, the processes, and their lack of morals and integrity, who would trust them?

It's very obvious their 'get real rich real quick club' is just waiting on the sidelines to derail reform and to attempt to get back to a situation where the trough is alive and well.

Poll finds public wants new draft charter to be clear and unbiased

BANGKOK, 14 September 2015 (NNT) – The majority of the public viewed that the contents within the new draft of the permanent constitution need to be clear and unbiased, according to a survey by Suan Dusit Poll.

Asked about the qualities they sought in members of the to-be-appointed constitution drafting committee, survey respondents indicated that each member should be a good person and honest, possess a distinguished work history, be dedicated to the country and the public, and be fair and unbiased.

Asked about how to create acceptance for the new draft charter, survey respondents suggested that the contents of the draft need to be clear and neutral, be of benefit to the nation, and must pass through detailed evaluation from many parties.

According to the poll, the majority of the public viewed the rejection of the draft charter as beneficial toward creating unity and acceptance among the public and would benefit the upcoming round of charter drafting.

Survey respondents also indicated that they would like Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha to select the 21 members of the new charter drafting committee based on the interest of the public.

Thailand's first female PM should be justifiably proud and continues to display calmness and dignity amidst the 'noise' of the baying elite pack and, moreover, she is loved by millions of Thais

Yeah anybody who losses ฿800+ billion deserves respect hey ?

You sir are in need of a reality check

Loved by millions because PT paid them to love them.

Somehow I find it hard to believe that the Thai public knows much about the charter and the meaning of it all, all they want is

a sympathetic and benevolent government that gives aid, freebees, debt moratorium and gifts, and as much and as often

as possible, the average Thai in the street knows and care very little of the real politics beyond of the rumors, innuendos,

and gossip mongering's perpetrates by people with vested interests.....

Yep. Only a few days ago on another thread one poster was advocating " kicking a wife up the jacksie and straightening her out" because she dared to express an opinion he clearly doesn't like.

At least with Yingluck we all know the source of "her ideas".

and who is she to "come up" with anything relevant?

The last person that the Thai electorate decided should be prime minister.

and the last prime minister to be removed by a court for abusing power.

The electorate didn't decide btw. She was chosen as PM by the political party owned by her brother.
