Abhisit says party is ready to make inputs on draft charter

BANGKOK: -- The Democrat party is ready to share its views on the new draft constitution, particularly on controversial issues which were earlier rejected by the now defunct National Reform Council, said party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva on Sunday.

He said that all stakeholders should be allowed to participate in the drafting process. This, he added, will be the best way out of conflicts as all parties concerned want the country to go through reforms and overcome previous conflicts.

Abhisit said he expected the 21 members of the Constitution Drafting Committee to play a role in soliciting opinions from all stakeholders. But he warned politicians not to sit in the CDC as this could invite criticism of conflict of interests.

Meanwhile, Mr Pramual Aimpia, deputy spokesman of the Democrat party, called on the government to open forum so that all stakeholders could share their views on the draft charter.

He said that all stakeholders would accept the rules set by the new charter if they were allowed to participate in the charter writing process.

The general has mentioned numerous times, that politicians are not welcome, that his guys are equally as good and can manage without their help.....

But of course, to determine any semblance of a legitimate constitution, the military should not be involved.

"politicians not to sit in the CDC as this could invite criticism of conflict of interests."

But a CDC, NRC, and NLA appointed by the Junta that rules the nation under absolute power is massive conflict of interest?

I'd rather see the Constitutional Court pick the CDC members as a last resort. Even though most of its judges were appointed by the previous junta it represents the only continuity between the 1996 and 2007 constitutions. But as a practical matter the CDC should include political representatives from the five political parties that participated in the 2011 election to capture more than 4% of the constituency as an advisory committee.

No active or retired military officer, former government official and/or their immediate family should be a member of the new CDC or advisory committee.

Naturally, if the NCPO insists on dictating its own political agenda for the draft constitution, the whole draft process becomes irrelevent no matter who is allowed to participate.

Abhisit, you need to take a hike somewhere along with the yellow shirts/elitists

and not worry about coming back!!!!clap2.gif

The same can be said about Yingluck and the PTP. We don't need redshirt/elitists who only masquerade as fighting for the people. Both parties only want votes so that they get to gorge at the public trough.

The charter should have been done and signed months ago. Many of the Charter Writer's told the BP they wanted job security -- being appointed positions in the new Uber-government. Suthep and Isara, I am certain, also had and have their hands out.

They only needed to tweak the charter to require a super-majority, or four fifths vote in both houses, for any law that amended the constitution or incurred costs over a specific amount, with a provision that the elected chamber Never have the right to grant amnesty to anyone for any reason. But they, very suspiciously, did not do that.

Instead, all the cronies got paychecks -- and most were never in the chamber. They were absentee Landlords who now want new jobs. This is like watching a train wreck calling a five car pile up a disaster.

Input is the charters only survival , without people like Mark, experienced in this type of area , the CDC would only introduce a dictatorship type of constitution , something they, the CDC, know about fairly well. coffee1.gif

Anything that Markie Mark says is not going to further democracy in Thailand by one millimetre. He couldn't win an election if his life depended on it - or he would already have done so.

The man's a complete WOFT and the longer he stays in charge of the 'Democrat' party, the happier I will be.

Abhisit was already a big fail when he is premier....he can make a smart face and speak nice but over all his performance was worse than Yingluck.

I think his inputs are really NOT needed.

Suthep, hate him or love him, but at least he is doing something.

Of course HE is a big important (arrogant) stakeholder and must be consulted. Or else the Charter will surely fail. Every political crony coming out of the woodwork, wanting their face on television and proclaim they know best. Many were in power at one time or another, and how progressive has the country been regarding corruption, nepotism, elitism and unusual wealth-gain for senior officials in Govt? Not much.
