Activated Charcoal safety

I think I may have finally found something that is helping my breathing due to LPR. I found this by accident by reading some forums.

Since activated charcoal is available over the counter in Thailand I was wondering how safe is this to use longer term?

I am aware that activated charcoal also absorbs minerals and vitamins, so I was wondering if it it okay to use supplements.

There is very little information about LPR. It is extremely difficult disease to treat and I was quite happy that my breathing was almost normal today.

On that note I am trying to find some digestive enzymes. I bought Magesto-F and Combizym today.

Are those ok or is there anything better in Thailand?

There isn't any data on longterm use that I know of as it is mot normally used for problems requiring long term treatment.

As charcoal is not systemically absorbed the isdue would indeed be absorption of nutrients.

As far as I am aware there is no indication for the long term use of activated charcoal.

Activated charcoal is usually only used in some cases of poisoning and it is also incorporated into some wound dressings.

As indicated long term use could result in unintended outcomes.

Slightly off topic, but I recall some animals (either some bears or monkeys) that eat some slightly poisones fruits. But eat them always together with charcoal. They learned it somehow.

Read somewhere that it's OK to take it in pill form. Amazon seems to be selling a bunch of them as a daily supplement.

Sheryl, I always found your posts informative and was wondering if I could ask you for one more thing. Is there anyone in Bangkok who deals with LPR? Not GI and not a lung specialist as these people seem not to be well informed about the disease.

Usually investigated/treated by GI specialists as the condition is closely related to GERD.

Yes, it will need a GI specialist.

LPR is not a unique or separate condition from GERD. It is simply GERD that refluxes a bit higher, enough to cause irritation of the laryngopharynx.

Management would be the same as for GERD.

The fact that you have consulted some GI specialists who did not seem conversant with it does not mean that no one with that specialization is.

Suggest Prof. Rungsen or Prof. Varocha both at Bangkok Hospital.
