Has anyone else had the problem i am having?? I have a 2014 Ford Ranger wild-track 2.2, it has started what seems to jump around gears at 1500-2000rpm, i have had it at ford 2 times now but they keep saying they have reloaded the program and to see how it goes, this is obviously not the issue as i am still having the problems.

Has anyone had this problem with their Ranger? Or does anyone know what the problem is???

Advice as always is much appreciated!

OK, let's try a reset on this thread.

Helpful comments this time chaps.

Bear with me, this my or may not be related. On our BT-50 3.2, occasionally it would shift rough and seemed almost less intuitive and more industrial. When it happened Ialso noticed that the reverse sensors wouldn't function and an error is displayed on the center console (not dashboard) when you shift to reverse along with a different chime sound. No other warning lights.

I think I found the cause. The wife! She has (had) a tendency to just stuff the ignition key in, turn and start immediately. Its almost as if by doing this the computer ECU and BCM don't get a chance to boot properly, then there's this large current draw from the starter across the system and it goes into fail-safe mode without as much refinement.

If you insert the key switch to the normal run position and pause for the few seconds it takes for the dash lights to complete their diagnostics then lastly wait another 2 second for the airbag warning light to go off, the problem is eliminated. No harsh gear changes - reverse sensors work fine. Simply pulling over an restarting as described fixes this problem.

In short, start and wait for the computer(s) to do their thing takes 5 or 6 seconds and then start. Your problem might go away.

I've checked with a Bluetooth scan gauge and no codes, so all is well.... allegedly :)

I drive the same truck as you now, but have never had the same problem. However, my old truck an Isuzu D-max used to have a similar problem in lower gear or in neutral when stopped. They reloaded the program on it and the problem did go away immediately so I figure that if it is the program then the problem should have gone away immediately. Like you said, the problem probably is the programming. Maybe try taking it into a different Ford center?

The AT in the Ranger is a learning type - they say it takes 200km for it to adapt to your driving style.. I wonder if it's possible you have 2 different drivers (with different throttle usage styles) driving using the same key?

That said, our old Pajero Sport had an issue where it would sometimes 'thunk' the change from 2nd to 3rd gear. It was eventually 90% fixed by a software update, but never did go away completely. The only way to replicate was to have me do the driving... no-one else could make it happen.. I guess I just knew how to irritate it :P

I am the only driver, my wife has drove maybe 8 times in the last 18 months plus the truck has travlelled 30k km, it is not a thunk it is what the call 'hunting gears' where the revs go 2000 1600 2000 1600 2000 1600 etc despite me not pressing the accelerator.

Do you feel any lack of power, or hesitation from the engine at any times?

Yeah it is almost like i need to force it to drop a gear. If i put it into semi auto and select myself I dont see this problem.
