Yes got my new passport and wondering when do I get the visas and stamps reproduced into it by immigration.

Am I OK waiting for the next annual renewal of extension of stay (retirement)

Thanks

"Visas" are never transferred but extensions of stay should be transferred ASAP.

If your extension renewal is due in the next couple of weeks it is probably OK to wait

I just did this Wednesday. As your old passport is cancelled your identification is now based on your new passport which does not have any stamps inside. You might carry both until such time as you can change but you never know what problems may arise. Unless there is a reason to delay I would recommend you transfer everything to the new passport. There was no charge to do the transfers and in my case I am also applying for the extension based on retirement but the transfer needed to be done first and then the extension is submitted. I was required to leave the passport overnight for each of these processes in Jomtien and expect there is a bit more scrutiny these days.

What exactly is transferred to a new passport?

-- original O visa?

-- current extension?

-- entry card?

-- most recent entry into Thailand stamp matching the date on the entry card?

Address report?

All of those? If not all ... which not?

They don't move the visa. They do a stamp and fill in the info about it along with your old passport number. They also transfer the entry stamp you got when you used the visa for entry.

Extension yes.

Last entry stamp yes.

The will move your entry card form old to new passport.

Ninety day report slip will be moved.

Thanks. I assume they will return both passports even if they keep them overnight?

What if you arrive with a new passport to fix and you have an address report due on your old passport? Can you do that step first with your old passport or must you wait for the new one to be ready?

They dont keep anything overnight, transferring stamps takes about 10 minutes and is free

They will return both passports when they are finished with them

It would be best to do the transfer before doing your 90 day report. That way your new report will have your new passport number on it.

Did you attend in the morning or afternoon ?

I was under the impression that Phuket immigration returned passports processed in the AM during the afternoon of the same day.

Arrived Jomtien office about 1:00pm to do transfers to new passport and they kept old and new passports overnight and said to come back at 2:00pm next day. Went next day at 10:00am and they were returned so I then submitted paperwork for a new retirement extension for upcoming year. They gave me a number and said come back next day at 10:00am. Came back next day at 9:00am and retrieved the passport with extension in. While there submitted paperwork for a single exit/re-entry and they did while I waited. All done this week so info current. Others there were also being told to return next day for documents. They seem to be busy and expect they may work on processing documents after doors closed to taking new applications. When I went this morning all the passports from the previous day were in a tray waiting for pickup.

Also worth noting that I went to Land Transport to change passport number on drivers licenses, bank and cell phone provider to have all with new passport number. When submitting documents to immigration they make you sign copies and put phone number on most of them. First time I recall this happening. Also told to put phone number on copies at Land Transportation office.

Quote Qman, "Also worth noting that I went to Land Transport to change passport number on drivers licenses".

Thanks for adding that piece of information as it was something I was wondering about, and what exactly did it entail at the Land Transport office?

Thanks.

Thanks.

I brought copies of the old passport, letter from Embassy stating the new passport was a replacement for the old one, new passport picture page, current (new in this case) visa, arrival card and copies of my existing drivers licenses as well as the original licenses and passports. You take number for foreigner downstairs, go up and the people at the desk go through the documents. They returned a few and I don't recall what was kept and what was returned. For sure they kept copies of the licenses, original licenses, copies of new passport and visa pages. They passed on to another person who entered some data into computer and then returned the documents to the front desk person. I was then asked to sign cover letters for each license which had some of the details printed on them and include my phone number. After signing I was told to go pay (310 baht for the two licenses) and then received a number for photo. Wait your turn, take picture and get new licenses. No tests or anything just fill out forms and pay. I went about 10:00 and there was no line so only took about an hour with most of the time waiting for photo as only one lady working that area instead of two.

Only real issue is to have all the copies. I did not have the drivers license copies and had to go across the road for that so best to take more than you think is needed to avoid delays.
