US frees Moroccan prisoner held over 13 years at Guantanamo

Education Ministry to increase vocational students numbers

Govt. to reduce document processing time for investments

BANGKOK, 18 September 2015, (NNT) - The Ministry of Finance on Thursday held "Bussiness Easing" seminar, aiming to significantly reduce the time government agencies need to process documents for international investments.


The seminar was chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak and attended by representatives from the private sector, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives.

According to Deputy Prime Minister Somkid, the measures would focus on giving priority to international investment, aiming to reduce the time used to process various documents from and average of 27 days to only 3-4 days.

Meanwhile, Finance Minister Apisak Tantiworawong said the government was ready to remove redundant or unnecessary processes and amend related laws in order to better facilitate investors. He stated that his ministry would look into the issue and formulate a plan within the next 2 weeks, and that the plan would be proposed to the Cabinet within a month.

Indonesia turns down Singapore's offer to help extinguish wildfires

Laos expects to see population number 6.8 million this year

VIENTIANE : -- The Lao government has estimated that by the end of this year the total population of the country will reach 6.8 million, an increase of over 21 percent from 2005 when the national population numbered 5.6 million, Lao News Agency reported.

National artist Prabhassorn Sevikul dies

BANGKOK: -- National artist Prabhassorn Sevikul has passed away from heart failure at his home at the age of 67 early Friday. He died peacefully at 2 pm from heart disease at home in Bangkok.

Prabhassorn or also known as Prapatsorn was awarded national artist in 2011.

He was survived by his wife Mrs Chutima and two sons.

He was former president of The Writers Association.

Prabhassirn was born on 22 April 1948 in Bangkok.

The famous artist had created a large body of work in the past 40 years and some of his novels were the basis for popular Thai movies and TV dramas.

His famous novel in 1984, “Time in a Bottle”, was translated into several languages as well as his 2007 short story collection called “Letter from a Blind Old Man” .

Special exhibition about Thai history planned for Thai Museum Day

BANGKOK, 18 September 2015 (NNT) - The Ministry of Culture will hold a special exhibition to celebrate the Thai Museum Day and also open a new library on life and works of King Rama V.

Culture Minister Weera Rojpotchanarat said the exhibition will feature 111 pieces of ancient artifacts and art objects belonging to different eras and discovered in various parts of Thailand. These items belong to such periods as Thavaravadi, Srivijaya, Lopburi, Sukhothai, Ayutthaya and Rattanakosin.

Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn will officiate at the opening ceremony of the special exhibition on September 27th at Siwamokhaphiman Hall, National Museum, in Phra Nakhon District. The Princess will, on the same day, unveil a new library on the works of King Rama V at the Thawornwatthu Building, in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of King Rama V's passing.

The exhibition will be open to the public from September 30th onward.

Princess Chulabhorn talked about her happiness of giving in a special interview to mark Mahidol Day

BANGKOK, 18 September 2015 (NNT) - Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn yesterday (Sep 17) gave a special interview on the occasion of Mahidol Day, 24th of September, which commemorates the death of His Royal Highness Prince Mahidol of Songkla, the Father of Modern Medicine and Public Health of Thailand.


The Princess joined in a tape recording for a TV program to be aired on Mahidol Day, in her capacity as chairperson of the fund-raising committee of Siriraj Hospital.

This year’s fund-raising campaign is held under the theme of “The power of giving, the power of happiness”, reflecting Prince Mahidol’s contributions to the promotion and revival of health of people in deprived families. In the interview, Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn talked about the happiness she had gained from her activities to bring progress to the medicine in Thailand. She also recounted her experience as a lecturer to give knowledge to students at the Department of Bio-chemistry, Faculty of Medicine of Siriraj Hospital.

The program will be aired on Television Channel 5, on Saturday, 19 September, from 10.15 p.m onwards.

BANGKOK: -- Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam said Friday that the amount of compensation to be demanded from former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra for the massive loss caused to the state from the rice pledging scheme would be less than 500 billion baht as earlier reported.
