Priority lane

When I arrived to the airport I was waiting in the queue to immigration and was stopped and a woman looked in

my passport, asked for my phone number. Then she told me to go to priority lane. Anyone know why?

Did you answer her in Thai? Maybe she was being nice as thought you were a long time resident?

That is normal when there is few or no people in the priority queue.

But asking for the phone number remains a mystery

Sending you through the priority lane was probably just to keep things moving. There are many reports now of people being asked for phone numbers. Probably just a new security measure.

Thank you all for your answers. The reason I asked is if anybody know, maybe we can use it on future travels. No I'm not Thai, I answered her in Thai and

it's compulsory to leave a phone number when you enter Thailand.

You will get a call from deveres or a boiler room, dont get excited.. Similar thing happened to me at a luggage carousel, some girl insisting on collecting my details and wanted the tag off my suitcase.. she was targetting business class..

Strange, but in the 24 years I have been coming in and out of Thailand I have never yet been required to give my phone number.
