Accident 68-Year-Old Man Dies After Motorcycle Sidecar Skids Off Bend into Drainage Canal in Bangkok

A 68-year-old man lost his life after losing control of his motorcycle with a sidecar and plunging into a drainage canal in Soi Suksawat 30, Chom Thong District, on the night of 11 May. At approximately 21:25, the Burana Rescue Centre (Ratchaphruek Hospital) received an emergency call reporting a motorcycle crash near a bend by Wat Pho Thong Temple within Soi Suksawat 30. The vehicle had veered off the road and into a drainage canal. Rescue volunteers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation were immediately dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, emergency responders found the red-and-grey Honda Wave 110i motorcycle with a sidecar submerged in the canal near a spirit house at the side of the road. The crash occurred on a curve along Suksawat Road, in a poorly lit area flanked by drainage ditches and overgrown grass. A man, later identified as Mr. Surin Donpraimee, 68, was discovered unconscious and lying on his side at the edge of the canal. Volunteers pulled him to safety and attempted CPR after detecting faint cardiac activity, but he remained unresponsive. Paramedics from the Erawan emergency system arrived shortly afterward and continued resuscitation efforts while rushing him to IMH Thonburi Hospital. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at 21:51. An eyewitness, Mr. Chalermphon, 43, who was driving behind the victim, stated that the motorcycle as he reached the curve, failed to turn and brake, instead heading straight into the canal. “There were no brake lights, no signs of slowing down, it was dark, and he just went straight off the road,” said the witness, who rushed to help after seeing the crash. Authorities noted that the bend in question is poorly lit, with no barrier separating the road from the canal. The road is a two-lane carriageway with clearly marked lines, but its slippery surface during the rainy season has made it notorious for crashes. Locals report that drivers frequently lose control at this spot, especially during wet conditions. Officials are urging local authorities to implement safety measures, such as barriers and improved lighting, to prevent further incidents at this crash-prone bend. Crime Man Arrested After 18 Years on the Run for Gun Murder at Drinking Party
Picture courtesy of CIB A man wanted for nearly two decades for a deadly shooting during a drinking session has been arrested by The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB). The arrest brings an end to an 18-year-long manhunt for Mr. Woramet, who was wanted for imurder and illegal possession of a firearm. The arrest was carried out by officers from the Crime Suppression Division (CSD) at a house in Song Chan subdistrict, Krasang district, Buriram province, the suspect’s hometown. The crime dates back to 2007, when Mr. Woramet fatally shot a man in Si Racha district, Chonburi province, using a pen gun, a disguised firearm resembling a pen, during a heated argument in a drinking circle. According to the investigation, the suspect had been struck in the back during the altercation before retaliating with the concealed weapon. Following the incident, Mr. Woramet fled the scene on a motorcycle and managed to evade authorities for 18 years. A warrant was issued for his arrest on charges of murder, unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, and carrying a weapon in a public place without reasonable cause. A renewed investigation led officers to trace his whereabouts to Nong Teng subdistrict in Krasang, Buriram. Upon locating him, police moved in and arrested him without incident. Mr. Woramet admitted his identity and confessed to the crime, claiming he acted in self-defence. He has since been handed over to the investigative officers of Si Racha Police Station in Chonburi province to face legal proceedings. The arrest was made under the direction of Police Lieutenant General Jiraphop Bhuridej, Commissioner of the Central Investigation Bureau, with oversight from Police Major General Wittaya Sriprasertphap, CSD Commander, and Police Colonel Natewit Thanasitnitikul, Superintendent of Subdivision 2.
