Cantona offers shelter to migrants
The Associated Press

PARIS: -- Former Manchester United star Eric Cantona says he will make one of his homes available to migrants arriving in France.

Cantona told France Inter radio Tuesday that he is setting up a plan with authorities in Marseille to lend a 50 square meter house, along with a large garden, to people fleeing war and poverty in the Middle East and Africa.

Cantona, who said he is committing himself over at least a two-year period, will also provide food for those staying in the house.

Cantona said "my maternal grandparents went through this because they were Spanish Republicans who fled Franco's regime."

French President Francois Hollande has agreed to take 24,000 migrants over two years.

Another celebrity do-gooder jumping on the bandwagon.

The migrants will probably be allowed to stay in Europe 'forever', therefore, anyone making such offers should let them stay in their house for the same duration.

If Cantona wants his house back in a couple of years, then they should be sent back to their original country after two years.

Yeah well done to him!! Its a pity more of the rich people of the world do not do the same!!

One reason why people hold tenaciously to hate, is that when it disappears, so they have to deal with their own pain.

It used to be fashionable for the landed gentry to house a Hermit in their estates living in a Hermitage provided for him. Now it would appear migrants serve the same purpose. I'm not sure whether the 50sq M abode mentioned in the o.p was correct or a typo, either way it's a drop in the ocean, no pun intended.

Eric is hardly a spotlight chasing celebrity. looking to get his face in the papers at any opportunity.

Do you suck lemons for breakfast?

Good on you Eric, and good for you for your time at Leeds Utd.

Cantona always was a weirdo ...

Didn't know that generous and humanist were synonymous of weird.

That's the weirdest thing I have heard.

'' People fleeing war and poverty in the Middle East and Africa ''

a Hungarian politician said ''it's a muslim invasion of Europe''

we will look back on history one day and look back on today
