Quick question re the new 6 month tourist visa coming into effect in November.

I understand that its a multientry visa and you have to leave the country every 60 days, however question is does anyone know if you can extend that 60 days by another 30 at immigration as you can with a normal tourist visa meaning that you would only have to leave once during the 6 month period? Ie effectively the same as a double entry tourist visa

As it hasn't been launched yet I doubt anyone can give a definitive answer. But IMO you will be able to extend any of the 60 day stays by 30 days.

Obviously it's meant for tourists traveling the region and coming and going multiple times. But for anyone using it that's living here it will work out like a 3 entry TR and give about 9 months if fully utilised.

Best we await the detail.

I would not be surprised if "extensions" other than the 7 day "leave the country" extension were excluded from the new visa.

I agree its best not to speculate.

Sounds good to me.I plan on living in Thailand about 5-6 months every year.

Regardless of the new visa unless you're planning on more than one exit you'll be good with a cheaper standard double entry.

The report in the newspaper said it could not be extended it was a maximum of 60 days per entry as the target market is frequent travellers not long stay tourists.

True or speculation. Who knows

It will only be any good to anyone staying here for a considerable period of time if

1: Its possible to extend each 60 day entry by 30 days and

2: If you can use it for a 60 days entry at the end of the 6 month period

This would give 9 months. If this isnt possible you're better off with a double entry tourist visa which would be cheaper

All this discussion is being made in the bug thread linked by ubjonjoe above.

But In my opinion this is done to have those repeatedly entering visa exempt to pay Bt 10,000 a year to do the same.

Nr 2, will not happen.

This visa is not for long stayers, but for frequent visitors to the Kingdom of Thailand.

It's a tourist visa and under regulations all tourist visa stays can be extended by 30 days so it's likely these will be to. Regardless of extensions, if someone enters just before the end of the 6 months they will get another 60 days so no.2 will definately happen.
