PHUKET: -- The unopened Nemo Dolphinarium in Chalong has secured permission from the Department of Fisheries in Bangkok to import dolphins and other marine animals for the hotly-contested Phuket attraction.

“We are now working on importing the animals for the show. However, we have yet to confirm how many will be allowed for the performance,” said the dolphinarium project manager, who asked not to be named.

It was last reported that four bottlenose dolphins, not six as originally reported, as well as sea lions and seals were destined for the facility (story here).

“In the meantime, our marketing team is working on promoting the show. We don’t expect to have a very big grand opening, we just want to offer another entertainment option to tourists,” the representative said.

The dolphinarium is slated to open for the upcoming high season in November. However, the company is prepared for it to take a little longer – perhaps not opening until December.

One step forwards, two steps backwards. Thailand should hang their head in shame for allowing this to be called "entertainment".

Tourist attraction it is not !

Terrible and Shocking..

would love to say, who would go and see this..

But no doubt the ''Chinese'' in there bus loads will be there... spitting and chucking there trash everywhere..., and loud as hell..

I hope people will boycott this display of bad taste in the name of making Money .... sick.gif

I wonder if anyone from the Dept if Fisheries actually even bothered to inspect the facility before signing off on it or were they just given photos in a brown envelope?

It looks like a very small venue to be hosting even a single marine mammal. Surely there is some huge water facility beyond that tiny dome that we see here.

Hopefully it will be as popular as nikki beach was after the elephant fiasco !!

Disgraceful .... very bad decision.

I've never set foot in Chiang Mai's Tiger Kingdom for very same reason. Disgraceful sums it up.
