Switzerland bans sale of many VW diesel models amid emissions scandal

The sale of some Volkswagen diesel models has been banned in Switzerland. The temporary move comes amid a deepening scandal over VW’s rigging of diesel car emissions tests and could affect 180,000 cars not yet sold or registered in Switzerland.

The ban does not apply to vehicles already on the road or cars with Euro6 emission category engines.

New Volkswagen CEO Matthias Mueller said his most urgent task is to win back trust.

“Acting carefully is more important than acting quickly,” said Mueller. “It’s imperative that this kind of thing can never happen again at Volkswagen which is why the group is going to enforce even stricter standards of compliance and governance. That is my commitment.”

Meanwhile regulators and prosecutors around the world are investigating the issue while investors and customers are launching lawsuits.

“Well it’s incredibly damaging,” said :Robert Haigh, Marketing and Communications Director, Brand Finance. “The sheer scale of it and the deliberate nature means it will really have a very significant impact on VW’s brand. The damage done already could amount to 10 billion dollars wiped off its intangible value.”

Volkswagen said 11 million vehicles worldwide were fitted with cheating software.

Customers and motor dealers are furious because they say Volkswagen has yet to specify which vehicles models and years of manufacture are affected, and whether cars are going to be recalled for refits.

Quote The damage done already could amount to 10 billion dollars wiped off its intangible value.” unquote. Not even close. There are just to many layers here to get off that cheap. By the time all the shyster lawyers line up clients on a contingency basis the number zero comes to mind. Blood is in the water and the sharks are circling. India might buy the brand name and spare parts.

This is just totally incomprehensible, i have worked in the automobile industry in Germany for nearly 40 years, i know the way they think, they are so exact and correct regarding the laws of foreign countries, everything is so bureaucratic it is hard to believe how something like this could happen even if it was ordered from the top there would be nay sayers all along the line downwards, the sad destruction of a good company.

so what if the car pollutes a little more than is allowed by EU regulation....go anywhere outside the west and many countries allow people to drive bangers spewing out 1000 times more pollutants than the VW not to mention the household and industrial waste that get burnt in the open air every day ...just another storm in a teacup to milk cash from the German motor industry

Its about trust... What if they lied about Air-Bags or Seat belts? crumple zones? other countries allow people to drive unsafe bangers.

The horse meat for beef was a large enough scandal.

The bigger issue is that we spend money on these brands because we trust them. When they break that trust they must be held accountable.

Big Picture - its just emissions - not great deal to us individually.

Much Bigger picture - they manipulated the results to lie - its a huge deal.
