Karadag and Mierraili escorted under tight security for re-enactment of deadly bombing

BANGKOK: -- Hundreds of police commandos and soldiers today escorted two bomb suspects for re-enactment of their acts in the bombing of the Erawan Shrine which killed 20 people, and injured over 120 others on August 17.

The re-enactment came after the two suspects Adem Karadag or Mohammed Bilaturk, and Yusufu Mieraili confessed to the deadly bombing after evidence collected by the police pointed to both of them to be responsible.

Meanwhile warrants were also issued today to arrest three more suspects, raising total bomb suspects now to 17.

Karadag admitted he was the yellow-shirted man shown in a video footage of placing a backpack containing the bomb device at the fence near the shrine, and walked away.

According to police investigators, Karadag had worn a wig and eyeglasses to disguise himself and then went to Lumpini park nearby to change his clothes in a bathroom.

Mieraili admitted to be the man on the skywalk near Ratchaprasong overlooking the shrine.

He admitted to be the man who detonated the bomb with a mobile phone after it was placed near the shrine by Karadag. After detonating the bomb, he threw the phone into Klong Sansab canal during the escape back to his apartment room in Minburi.

The crime re-enactment, which started before noon after both were escorted out of their detention centre at the 11th Army Circle in Dusit area, was supervised by the Royal Thai Police commissioner Pol Gen Somyot Poompunmuong.

They were taken to several places which included Ratchaprasong intersection, Lumpini park and Hua Lampong railway station.

Meanwhile, Mieraili was also taken to a nearby scene for re-enactment at Sansab canal, about 500 meter away from the shrine, where he admitted having deliberately threw the mobile phone which he had used to detonate the bomb.

Boat traffic in the canal was temporarily closed to allow divers to search for Mieraili’s phone.

Mieraili earlier admitted to the police that he had handed out the bomb in the backpack to his alleged partner at a spot outside Hua Lampong railway station, about five kilometres from the shrine.

Pol Gen Somyot said those suspects are “no scapegoat” and confirmed that the case will be finished by the police investigators before the end of this month when he is scheduled to retire.

He said the police had obtained pieces of evidence to substantiate the charges that crime was perpetrated by the detained suspects.

Arrest warrants are yet to be issued by court for 10 more bombing suspects in addition to 16 others for whom such warrants had been issued, the police said.

The names and nationalities of those suspects cannot be divulged to the public for fear of more or less spoiling the unfinished investigation.

The military court on Wednesday approved an arrest warrant for a new suspect in the Bangkok bombings last month, bringing the total number of arrest warrants issued in connection with the incidents to 14.

The new suspect is an unidentified man with short hair, who seems to be in his 30s and could speak Thai, Metropolitan Police Chief Srivara Rangsi-prammanaku said.

By noon today Royal Thai Police spokesman Pol Lt Gen Prawut Thavornsiri said the military court issued warrants for the arrest of three more suspects, raising total suspected wanted in the two bombings to 17.

So they all just stayed around and waited until the highly skilled RTP caught up with them.

Then he confessed without torture.

I take it the 16 are patiently waiting for the heroic BIB to catch them at the border where they will line up to be punched like the bad guys in a B grade movie from the past.

Where is the mastermind now, do they know do they care.

well if these are the 2 that did it then well done boys, about time you got something right, lets hope all the evidence does actually back this conclusion up

So where are the wig and eye glasses.

Probably still with the real bomber.

RTP don't want to find them as won't have Karadag's DNA or prints on them

Did they even ask him when and where he bought them from

They made him wear a yellow shirt but didn't make him wear a new wig and glasses as everyone would realise he looks nothing like the bomber

It sure would be a lot more believable if the man was allowed to have (by right of Thai law) his lawyer present at the time of this interrogation and alleged confession.

I foresee this so called confession being recanted within the next few days.

assume they were taken to the respective locations seperately so that any conflict with comments / statements / thoughts were noted for further analysis - Nah! didn't think so - that would be too difficult with even considering the logic behind it.

You got it, sunshine.

How many arrest warrants for unidentified people can you issue ? In his 30s with short hair and can speak Thai smile.png

Why do you ask that question? It appears they know who they're interested in, don't spit your dummy just because they haven't let you in on it...

A neat retirement gift for our A******** police chief Somyot, rug everything under the carpet, another brown envelope under the table, all that publicity reenactment stunt right before he retires, any coincidence?

They still call him Adem Karadag, which was the name on fake Turkish passport. So it is obvious that his name is not Adem Karadag. And most probably he is not a Turk, but an Uighur.

How come the police is still not sure about his nationality? So he confessed the whole thing, but didn't tell his nationality? That's nonsense.

Us Turks in Thailand are having a very difficult time because of the previous comments claiming that the suspect was Turkish. They should clear this issue immediately and stop the witch hunt for Turks. Innocent Turkish backpackers are being raided by the police 5 in the morning, Turks with valid visas are being deported, every single Turk is being interrogated at the airports and border crossings because of this issue.

So again a confession in some darkened room somewhere, no video, no independent corroboration of the confession.. Well you can only take it with a pinch of salt imo. These investigators have been running around like headless chickens and if not for some helpful citizens giving them tips would be looking even more shifty and incompetent than they do now.

When somebody has to reassure observers that the people in custody aren't scapegoats alarm bells start to ring. And sviss geez no need to reply with the usual BS. Do one sunshine

Suspects 're-enact' bombing
THE SUNDAY NATION

BANGKOK: -- TWO PRIME suspects in the Erawan Shrine bomb attack that killed 20 and injured more than 100 people re-enacted the crime at 19 key spots in Bangkok yesterday.

Adem Karadag, or Bilal Muhammed, who was the first suspect arrested in connection with the August 17 attack in an apartment in Min Buri, and Mieraili Yusufu, the second suspect arrested at the beginning of this month near the Cambodia border at Sa Kaew's Aranyaprathet district, were taken to re-enact the crime at key spots where they confessed to committing the crime, Royal Thai Police Pol Lt-General Prawut Thawornsiri said yesterday.

Prawut said Adem's confession was in line with Mieraili's confession and Adem's statements also implicated others in the bombing gang. "The suspects' statements given to police are also in line with other evidence that police found and scientific evidence. This led us to believe that their confession is true,'' Prawut said.

Both suspects re-enacted the crime separately. Adem started the re-enactment outside the Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel where he allegedly got off a tuk-tuk; the second spot was at the Erawan Shrine where Adem placed a bag containing the bomb. Mieraili was brought to Rama I Road, opposite the Erawan Shrine. The third spot was at Soi Mahadlekluang where Mieraili got on a motorcycle to escape; the fourth spot was at Chalermlok bridge where Mieraili confessed that he threw his mobile phone into the Saen Saeb canal. The fifth spot was at the fifth gate of Lumpini Park, where Adem allegedly got off a motorcycle to walk to Lumpini Park. The sixth spot was at a toilet near the fifth gate of the park where Adem changed his clothes before leaving the park through gate 4 on Rama IV Road to get in a taxi. The seventh spot was near Padung Krung Kasem Canal at the third bridge near Hua Lampong train station where Adem waited for Mieraili to give him the bomb. Mieraili waited at the second bridge. The eighth spot was at a bench near Padung Krung Kasem Canal near Hua Lampong train station where bags were switched.

The ninth spot was near the fence of the Hua Lampong train station near the Padung Krung Kasem Canal where Adem got into a tuk-tuk. The 10th spot was where the tuk-tuk driver stopped to talk to his friend. The 11th spot was the Cockpit shop opposite Ramada Hotel where a bag containing an explosive device was delivered to Zubair - the blue-shirted man who dropped a bomb at Sathorn Pier; the 12th spot was at a mosque between Soi Charoenkrung 105 and 107 where Adem took 20 minutes to pray.

The 13th spot was at the LPG gas station opposite the mosque where Adem changed into a yellow shirt. The 14th spot was at Kor Laem post office where Adem got on a taxi. The 15th spot was at Soi Charoen Nakhon 61 and Chao Phraya Princess pier, where a bag containing a bomb was located.

The 16th spot was Charoen Nakhon Road opposite Soi Charoen Nakhon 61 where the suspect got into a taxi. The 17th spot was Min Buri market where the suspect got off a taxi. The 18th spot was at a 7-Eleven shop at Min Buri where Adem bought some goods and the 19th spot was at room 412 of Poon-anan apartment where Adem was arrested.

National police chief General Somyot Poompanmuang said the suspects had confessed because they were confronted with evidence. He said the motive for the bombing was the crackdown on human trafficking, which put an end to the illegal business. The suspects were part of the human-trafficking ring and might have been hired by an ill-intentioned group to commit the crime. The re-enactment was carried out under heavy security with some 600 military and police officers being deployed to keep security, who accompanied the two suspects to all the sites. Adem wore a yellow T-shirt and a bulletproof vest and shorts. Mieraili was in a blue T-shirt with a bulletproof vest inside the shirt and shorts. Before the enactment, the Bangkok Military Court approved police's request to detain the two suspects for 12 days from September26 to October 7. The suspects would be detained at the temporary remand facility in Nakhon Chaisri after re-enacting the crime.

Prawut had announced a list of 17 suspects for whom arrest warrants were approved by the court. All 17 were charged with colluding to commit premeditated murder; colluding to commit attempted premeditated murder; colluding to produce bombs, causing death, serious injuries and damage to the assets of others; conspiring to damage property; colluding to possess explosive devices without permission; colluding to carry explosive devices into a city or public places without justified reasons; and colluding to possess weapons without permission.

I am sure that it was thrilling to watch the guys re-enact getting off and on tuk tuks and stopping off at shops. But the main thing is all the valuable information the police gain from watching the re-enactment where the suspect is told exactly what to do. As the world face palms once again.

I am not saying they don't have the right guys, but we probably never will know the truth. There is unlikely to be a wave of support for these guys like what happened for the Burmese boys from KT. Guilty or not, these guys are done for.

Any reports of any official communication on this issue between Thailand and Turkish officials?

A post containing unsubstantiated allegations of a conspiratorial nature has been removed:

6) You will not post comments that could be reasonably construed as defamation or libel.

Defamation is the issuance of a statement about another person or business which causes that person to suffer harm. It does not have to be false to be defamatory. Libel is when the defamatory statement is published either in a drawing, painting, cinematography, film, picture or letters made visible by any means, or any other recording instruments, recording picture or letters, or by broadcasting or spreading picture, or by propagation by any other means. Defamation is both a civil and criminal charge in Thailand.
Other nonsense posts and replies have been removed.

If they hadn't hosed the scene down the very next day they would have the evidence needed to convict whoever did the job. There would not be a need for forced or paid confessions and re-enactment of anything. Clumsy investigation by third world country enforcement agency. Difficult to believe that this is not just a setup to find a culprit when they really have no idea what they are doing.

So did they explain a motive? What was the point of the bombing. Just a pointless exercise in creating suffering for others?

Ok the good thing is there have been no bombings since so maybe Thailand is safe again? :)

You know I could not help but notice this guy’s body language is all wrong. The last time a saw someone accused that was staring straight into the camera in every shot was the guy that confessed to the JonBenet Ramsey murder. He was fascinated by all the attention just like this guy. That guy just turned out to be obsessed with that murder. Typically you see people hiding their face if guilty but not this guy.

I am so confused... How can they have Adem Karadag and the bomber now???

Karadag thru his lawyer has stated that he was not in Thailand at the time of the bombing (See Bangkok Post Article - Which can not be linked here ;-(...) - He gave very detailed account of entering Thailand on the 21th (4 days after the bombing) at the Thai/Lao border where he bribed the border guard????

This would seem to be easy to confirm by looking at the stamp in his fake passport and I assume there is some sort to camera system at the border crossing that could confirm this?...

Has this been disproved by the Police????
