Hi folks,

I'm seeing much better performance from my 3BB connection in Surin today. It's still not giving me full speed like it was a couple of weeks ago, but it's usable now, no sites timing out or anything today.

Anyone else noticed an improvement this morning?

I'm getting 2.7 Mbps today, I usually get 10+ Mbps, but for the last 2 weeks I have been lucky to get over 250 Kbps, so definitely a shift in the right direction today.

EDIT: Must have been a temporary thing, I'm back down to 142 Kbps now. I wish they would hurry up and fix this.

I have no clue. It can change every minute. I use intensively a software which needs a permanent stable connection to the US. Sometime it works better, sometimes not. I don't expect anymore some improvements. Obviously Thailand doesn't consider reliable internet as necessary. It's a shame.

Everything was fine until about two weeks ago, now I see many reports from all around Thailand of people having problems. Something is broken somewhere, and they are taking their own sweet time to fix it.

My TOT Fibre connection started deteriorating a few weeks ago and became horrible about the end of last week.

Whatever the issue(s) was/were, it was fixed sometime Tuesday evening this week. Now it is as good as it has ever been, which is about 18 months.

I also have a TRUE DOCSIS connection. That was affected too during that period but less so than the TOT one. Now things are back to normal, the TOT connection can run rings around TRUE. OK, it's also more expensive so it should be better.

What is the location of the server you are testing against?

I'm running a multiple target test to the UK and the USA, then being given the average result.

Yup. For the past few months I had been getting close to the service I was paying for. Than on Wednesday Sept 23, it went seriously downhill. When I called True to complain, I got a recording saying that internet service was being 'upgraded' in my area and would be back to normal by the end of the day.

Yup, back to normal all right. Slow as mollassis, everything timing out, cannot download anything because downloads will only run for 1 to 2 minutes before failing. So back to the way it was 10 years ago.

Funny thing is, prior to the 'upgrade' I was actually thinking about upgrading my service to something faster. But not any more.

I upped my 3BB sub from the B590/mth sub to another cog.

Difference in speed - very little?

BUT, 3BB has been kind - never down. If it was, 2 techs arrive the same day.

I am a satisfied customer.

Supposedly the reason for the recent slowdown of internet speeds is a severed undersea cable that affects much of SE Asia.

Some slow down over the past couple of weeks (3BB, Pattaya) but never very bad. It does seem better right now. Actually the most problematic for me was TV forums. Often wouldn't connect using the email links or if it did it was a jumble, seemed to work better with Edge than with Chrome ("website unavailable" error)... but not a problem today.

I have had better results that last 2 evenings wrt streaming from the UK.

Prior I had a spell where it was impossible and speed-tests were under 0.5 Mb

I still see some 'sluggishness' with forums.

Coincidentally I put in a report to True, and got a message back saying they only guaranteed the speed 30/3, between my computer and their nearest server ... not much use that! But, coincidentally that day, things improved.

There was also some feedback that stated that particular incident was from over a year ago, have you seen a recent report of such damage?

If so, it would be reported here; https://subseaworldnews.com/tag/cable/

or here; http://www.subcableworld.com/daily-newsfeed

My 3BB connection in Bangkok hasn't changed at all.

Its still working fine, so whatever the problem is, it isn't affecting everyone.

I just tested my speed

to Hong Kong 78ms Ping, 18 down / 1 up

to London 228ms Ping, 18 down / 1 up

to San Fran 232ms Ping, 12.47 down / 0.97 up <---- Something up with the connection the the US perhaps?

to San Antonio Texas 281ms Ping, 5.26 down / 0.65 up <---- I have servers in Texas (hence checking the speed to there).

Whilst not conclusive, I would say that there is an issue with the connection to the US.

This is most likely not anything to do with Thailand.

Maybe the available technical skills are lacking to fix it

Would not be surprised if that "One Gateway" is being tested, and packets getting channeled/stored. Lots of news about this, and although it is only a "proposal", perhaps the proposal is being "tested" for feasibility.

I did another run of ICSINetalyzer (ICSI Netalyzr).

Among a detailed analysis it tests speed to Berkeley.

14 MBit/s down, 2.8 MBit/s up. Thats in the normal range.

(I do this test occasionally since 2013)

ToT fibre (30/3).

Mine is still garbage. Sites timing out, some cannot even open, from the time I turn on my laptop until I can even start accessing a site, it takes anything from ten minutes up to half an hour, which was how long it took this morning. I'm in Loei Province and connected to 3BB. Have contacted call centre, all I get is, it is connected, see no problem, what is your download speed. I will get technician to check and call you back. Still waiting.

I'm no expert but this looks to me as if the latency to the first hop in Singapore is 309 ms lol. Bandwidth seems unaffected somehow so I've no idea what is going on.

I entered some of the addresses starting from hop #9 to this site:

https://www.iplocation.net/

Results for 9,10,11 are more than confusing.

At least the final target seems to be in Canberra.

But the ping time is unusually high for this.

And servers in Europe and US on the way??
