Fatality at Royal Asia Lodge (Suk Soi 8) on Sat.

Featured Replies

Be interested to see if there's anything in the news Sunday about this.

Was passing by there late afternoon today and there must have been 4 private rescue ambulances, a bunch of police from Lumpini station, forensics police and even a couple of Army soldiers on hand. And a couple hours later when I passed by again, there were still some of the rescue and police folks milling around outside.

One of the locals told me, if I understood right, that someone took a header out of the hotel and down to the ground, and showed me a cell phone photo of the body on the ground. But I don't have any confirmation of that. I also don't know what the normal police response is to a suicide. But it seemed like an usually large number of police and rescue folks there, and I wasn't sure why the uniformed Army soldiers were on hand as well.

At any rate, it was nice (whistling.gif ) to see that the Lumpini police folks seem to have managed to get themselves some nice new police cars. Never seen this particular variety before.

He needs to work on his puns.

They're too good, at the moment.

I stayed at that place many times, it was the first place I stayed in Thailand. Not so nice, but good staff, and a quiet location. I think it changed owners some years back, it was owned by an Indian family when I used to go there.

Didn't see anything in the news on this over the weekend...

So, apparently, just another anonymous death in Thailand.

A sad tale of misadventure and depression moat likely.

Thanks for that... It's weird... when I find the headline and photo for that item way down now on his Facebook page, all the links there don't lead to any article -- just back to the top of his Facebook page.

But when I do a web search, I can find a cached version of his original report. Wonder if the original was taken down for some reason.

Here's the cached version:

The guy had been staying there for TWO MONTHS???

Police were called to a hotel popular with tourists in Sukhumvit Soi 8 today after the body of a foreign man was discovered by building staff.

Upon inspection, officers from Lumpini Police Station accompanied by a doctor from the forensics department and EMTs, found the body of a 30-year-old Korean man on the second floor terrace.

It is thought the man, identified as Mr Kim, had self-harmed in the bathroom of his seventh floor room before leaping to his death.

Staff told police Mr Kim was a regular visitor to the hotel, popular with Asian and Europeans, and went about his business quietly going out to drink most nights, adding he had checked in on August 2nd.

Police said there were no signs of a struggle in the mans room and the door was locked from the inside with investigators saying there was nothing obvious to suggest foul play or robbery. Blood was found in the bathroom leading officers to believe the man had self-harmed before jumping.

The body was sent to Chulalongkorn Hospital for autopsy with police saying they will check CCTV and interview staff and other guests in a bid to establish the cause of death.
