BANGKOK: -- A FIRE broke out at a Chinese restaurant in Thong Lor in Bangkok's Wattana district early yesterday, but no injuries were reported

Following the 2.30am fire report, police found the first three floors of the six-storey building on Sukhumvit Soi 21 ablaze. It took five teams of fire-fighters 30 minutes to control the blaze.

Police Lieutenant Kirati Leung-on of Thong Lor Police said there were a report of an explosion before the fire - possibly a short circuit - on the ground floor.

I knew this thread would soon have a stupid cat joke. For at least 30 years I have wondered why is it that Westerners or Expats cannot mention the

subject of a Chinese restaurant without suggesting they would surreptitiously serve cat?

Has a Chinese restaurant ever actually been caught doing this or is it just subtle racism?

The truth is there is not much meat on an alleycat. Cats are a legendary pain to round up and despatch at it is a lot easier and predictable from a commercial point of view to just order provisions from a restaurant supply company or market. Plus it just isn't funny anymore.
