Anyone know if there any international school in Isaan? Any half-decent schools which pay properly at all for that matter?

There are a couple of schools in Khon Kaen that call themselves international. I don't think they are accredited though. One is called 'pattana dek'. I know one guy who gets 60,000 a month.

If I worked full-time teaching here, I could get 50,000 without any problem, which goes a hel_l of a longer way than it does in Bangkok.

You could get 700+ an hour in some of the unis for teaching conversation.

But can they get you the necessary paperwork? Do you know if any of the folks working up there have the real WP and visa? These things are becoming more important these days.

I'd be tempted myself, otherwise.....

There seems to be a distinction between International schools jing jing and schools calling themselves International schools.

Not so long ago (a couple of months), St Stephen's Int. School was looking for an ESL teacher on their Khao Yai campus. I recall that it was paying very well.

My geography isn't too hot, but I think Khao Yai park is in Isaan, just south of Korat :o

Hope it helps.

For the record there are no schools in Khon Kaen which call themselves international schools. Nor are they any genuine international schools in the city.

To find an international school you can consult the International schools website at www.isat.or.th. By law all international schools must register with this agency so if the school isn't listed then its not legit.

Someone mentioned St Stephens in Khao Yai. I've heard that they have a lot of staff turnover because of there remote location, 'banished' student population and Friday night entertainment which equates to a long drive to Tesco in Saraburi... Nice golf courses there though!
