How long in Ko Lipe (making our way back north via boat)

Hi folks,

Bit of a difference with this question...

Just to give a summary, we are a late 20's Irish couple who are happy to party, but we want some relax time before Christmas / New Years madness. We will be arriving on Phi Phi on Dec 23 / 24, and leaving Ko Tao on Jan 1st... so we have a full week of partying around that time.

So, before that...

We're planning on flying down to Hat Yai Dec 16th and going to Ko Lipe on Dec 17th (from what I read it's hard to do it all in the one day?). On Ko Lipe we are hoping to get some peace and quiet, but with a bit of activity at night.. so the island sounds ideal.

What I can't figure out is how long to stay on Ko Lipe? During the day we want to relax and do day trips on boats to other islands... but what I can't figure out is whether to base on Ko Lipe for a few days and do a few day trips, or island hop our way up to Phi Phi over the course of a few days? The only island south of Phi Phi we've been on is Lanta, so we're happy to give that a miss this time. We did do Ko Mook etc. on a day trip before, and think we're happy to stick with day trips to those total 'nothing happening at night' islands.

So, any recommendations? Stay on Ko Lipe and do day boat trips, or island hop our way up? We're talking about a total time space of 7-8 days.

Yes, it's a loooooong way from Tao to Lipe. Not sure you can do it in a day. Probably can't unless maybe you fly from Surat to Trang? Even then, it'd be tough. Anyway, you might do both. 2-3 days on Lipe then take the Tiger Line ferry up to another island for a day or two????

Thanks for the info. Just to be clear, I was talking about 7 - 8 days to get to PHI PHI, not to do Lipe - Ko Tao in one day!

We have stopped being anal about plans, so now what we're thinking of doing is... Get to Lipe on the 17th (Hat Yai on the 16th). Then, we have no plans until we check in at Koh Phangan (we're not staying in Haad Rin this time)on the 24th. We have from the 24th on booked (it gets busy).

So basically we have from the 17th - 24th to get from Lipe to Koh Phangan.. the world is our oyster.... just need to know how to plan that out but we might just wing it. If we get sick of the islands, is there anywhere on land (or in land, more natural / authentic Thai) to go between Lipe - Ferry to Koh Phangan in Surat Thani??

You could island hop up to Koh Jum....from there easy to get to Krabi Town and take a bus to Donsak in a few hours.

Easy to do in seven days...sounds fun!
