One month traffic closure for construction of Ratchaprasong skywalk

BANGKOK: -- Traffic police will close down the right lane of Rajdamri road from Ratchaprasong intersection to Pratunam intersection for about one month to pave way for the construction of a skywalk extension.

Pol Maj-Gen Adul Narongsak, deputy commissioner of metropolitan police and acting commander of traffic police, said he had held a discussion with Ratchaprasong business operators about the skywalk project which is an extension of the existing skywalk or elevated walkway from BTS station at Siam shopping mall to Chidlom BTS station.

Construction will commence on October 17 and one lane of the Rajdamri road close to the Gaysorn Plaza shopping mall will be closed to traffic from midnight until 4 am of the next morning for about a month.

It would be cheaper, less bothersome and more user-friendly to sort out, once and for all, clear pavements that function in the way originally intended. But needlessly extending the skywalk will no doubt put more money in individual pockets.

The people who frequent Gaysorn Plaza do not wish to mingle with the peasants at ground level. They need to be able to look down on them from a skywalk.....

But where would all the noodle karts and nick nack sellers go.....
