PM to seek local businesses operators’ help to drive economy

BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha will soon visit local business operators in the northern and the northeastern regions in a bid to persuade them to help drive the country economy forward.

This was revealed by deputy prime minister Somkid Jatusripitak yesterday after a meeting between Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha and the private sector.

Somkid, who is also a leader of the government’s economic team, said the prime minister will attend meetings of local joint government-private sector committee during the visit to the regions.

He said the meetings will discuss ways to make Thailand less reliance on exports and to use internal factors to help push the country’s economic growth.

The government wants the local joint government-private sector committees to come up with their own economic development plan, he said.

Meanwhile, Somkid disclosed that at yesterday’s meeting, the prime minister told the private sector to play greater part in the government’s economic policy.

The government has announced recently several economic stimulus packages including village funds, SME assistance fund and drought relief fund.

He said the prime minister wished to revive the joint government-private sector committees so that they could propose development plan for their area directly to the government.

Here's my idea, instead of wasting all that money on subs that are not really essential items, how about pumping that money into the local economy, which is an essential item ? thumbsup.gif

There's only one solution - - more lottery vendors!

And more generals?

Who else knows the overseas world better then the farangs in Thailand? They even speak the local languages!

So why not let farang work here if they can develop businesses who promote export?

Of course those farang don't work for free and sure won't pay their own workingvisa's, the government has to supply them.

When they get their submarine, the can charge visitors an entrance fee and money raised by that could be pumped back right in to support the North and Northeastern economies. Do not forget charging 10X local amount for foreigners having a look-see at the submarine.

This PM is an idiot , you need money to drive the local economy not bloody words Prayut, I suppose you put water in your cars gas tank and order it to move .

Here is an idea A vast pool of foreigners who have high education and extreme business experience. Let them open companies and do a sliding scale with thai employess

First year must higher one Thai Second year must have 2 Thais, 3 rd year 3, and forth year 4.

Now watch retired and current visitors run to set up companies and employment SOAR her in Thailand .

There is a huge pool of very experienced people who will help Thailand grow but not the way the current setup is rigged

Um mm. Consumers drive economies, unless he expects these businesses to go out and buy a load of capital equipment to supply stuff that right now, no one wants.....

You can work here :) - you just cant own the business you are building, nor can you own the property you may want to live in unless its a box in the sky.... So feel free to invest away your time and money on the roll of a dice.

The PM continues to demonstrate that his personal grasp of economic policy is simplistic, and apparently his economics team is paper thin.

The Thai economy is pretty well tapped-out. A strategy based on "asking" the private sector to do more is bone-headed. I would expect the private sector is working very hard to do what they can.

Turning away from the export economy is poor strategy. This should be a time for strategies and investments to expand exports, with an infusion from the government to help get it going. Plan for export turnaround and modest expansion in 2 to 3 years time.

Foreign direct investment is lagging. This would be a good time to rework the rules and incentivize foreign investors a bit more.

I doubt the PM is thinking along these lines. He's promoting nationalism, an inward focus, and the sufficiency economy. None of this will generate much real economic growth.

The single gateway announcement took a million baht out of the economy from just one person. Try making things stable, for a change.

Can anyone share contact info to respond to this? Thank you.

Reading some of the earlier posts there seems to be a prevailing opinion that the visiting foreigners should be put in charge of making the economy better. Those that I have met would be hard pressed to run a bath but look ok for organising a piss up in a brewery. Letting the big goys of the business world loose on the economy would be a good idea except that it could be likened to letting the tiger out of it's cage then hanging on to it's tail for control. My suggestion would be for the government to get rid of the dinosaurs of PEA and ToT and concentrate on administering the country, regulate the big businesses and offer them incentives to decentralise.

He may want to consider an economic roadshow using tax and labor incentives and try to see if he can attract a factory from abroad to relocate to the Issan area.of Thailand. Still plenty of land and plenty of workers who would love to have a job.

To push up the economy in Thailand and find more investors in the country you need to reorganize all that has to do to open a business as a foreigner of foreign company in Thailand!

Why would somebody invest in Thailand and not able to manage the company in his way and have the majority of votes!

Why someone should invest and can not own the land he set up a factory

Why should someone invest in Thailand and not able to manage the staff the way he or the company needs stuff

Why Why Why

So there are much better opportunities in the world then Thailand

Create new products using rice such as rice paper diaper liners using actual rice paper, rice cardboard, rice tissue paper, rice contact paper, rice cloth.

At least his economics team is not advising him to push out more debts into the hands of locals to jack economic activities up...
