KRABI: -- Wildlife conservation officials and Krabi provincial police today arrested three men and rescued three gibbons after they were seen using the animals for photo posing with tourists.

They confessed to make earning of several hundred thousands of bath a month from tourists posing for photos with the gibbons.

Rescued gibbons are female aged from six months to two years old.

Arrested are Abdulvalis Imuesa, 21, a resident of Pattani, and two residents of Krabi, Anucha Bangsai, 21, and Chairak Nilsamut, 20.

They were arrested on Phi Phi Island today after they were offering the three gibbons to tourists for photo posing at 100 baht a time.

They said they could earn several hundred thousand baht a month from photo posing during the high tourism season, while earning at low season was 60,000-100,000 baht a month, or an average 2,000 baht a day.

They were charged with having endangered wildlife species in possession with no permit.

The three gibbons will be brought to wildlife conservation centre in Phang Nga for nursery and care before releasing them into the wilderness.

several hundred thousand baht per month ??

erm.. slight exaggeration I think!

several = 300,000 per month ?

Divided by 30 days = 10,000 baht per day.

1 photo = 200 or 300 baht ?

so they are getting around 40 customers per day (every day).

maybe that was their BEST month.

anyway.. how about they do something about the Sedated Tigers in all the Temples that are forced to Pose with tourists?

and how about theforcing of Elephants and Aligators and Monkeys forced to do shows for people at Theme parks ?

the list is endless.. and stretches to almost all corners of the world.

I assume from your post that you are actively helping in the cause of stopping the commercial exploitation of animals.

Please give us a brief report on your ongoing activities aimed at stopping this cruel business.

I have seen a few Slow Loris there but never a gibbon. I used to try to tell tourists not to have their pictures taken with them as the animals were kept in small cages and drugged when brought out at night for the pictures. The income is very over stated but good to see them doing something

well, this article is about then DOING something, so why do you complain about what not done?

I like the humane touch, worry about three misused Gibbons but ignore slave trading for years until the civilized world threatened them with sanctions.
