DAMASCUS: -- The city of Raqqa – the Syrian base of the militant Islamic State is now a target for the YPG which expects to attack the stronghold within weeks.

The head of the group told a London-based newspaper contacts were underway with the US-led coalition to set “zero hour” for the operation.

ISIL has taken Raqqa as its so-called capital. The YPG – the Syrian Kurdish militia includes Syrian Arab groups – an alliance whose creation was announced at the start of this week.

It has received arms from the US. The Pentagon confirmed more than 45 tonnes of ammunition were dropped into the conflict zone overnight for the new alliance and that more than 100 pallets had been collected.

The consignment reportedly comprised small arms, ammunition and grenades.

In the Latakia province the Syrian army has claimed it recaptured several villages with the help of Russian airstrikes.

But the head of al-Qaeda’s Syrian affiliate the Al Nusra Front has called for retaliation against Moscow for the air offensive.

Abu Mohamed al-Jolani has appealed to jihadists in the Caucasus to attack Russian civilians and soldiers.

I wonder how long before the 45 tonnes of small arms weapons and ammunition and is sold to ISIL like all the other help US has given the Syrian rebels. It is a tragic joke really. The Turks are bombing the Kurds, the only really effective fighting force on the ground that is fighting ISIL and the Russians are bombing the US assisted rebels.

Agreed. USA and its Sunni state allies directly or indirectly (depending on how pessimisticic you want to be) fund ISIL. Iraqi troops flee the fight in Iraq to go fight in Syria. This war will rage for next 100 years. We buy their oil they buy our weapons. They build cities and then destroy them.
