If we forget the pedantics of a few re what is an O-A visa,

WHY NOT?

It is a visa for RETIREMENT=until death do us part.

I have been doing such for more than a decade.

Do you mean an actual visa from an embassy or an extension of stay from immigration?

I think the OP is trying to find a way of getting a renewable 1 year visa without having to show 800K in the bank. Not possible as far as I know.

Have a great day

If he is 65 for over he could get a multiple entry non-o visa in the UK., It would require leaving every 90 days to get a new entry.

Also any visa example O/A or non imm based on retirement has conditions you need to provide. It's not a visa for life as suggested..

Visa extension @ CNX I/O - 12 years now.

B800k in bank in LOS.

whistling.gif I understand, and have been told that the "going price" for a retirement renewal from some of the "agents" that will supposedly provide the same is between 15,000 and 18,000 Baht CASH paid in advance.

Of course:

  • This is illegal
  • There are NO gaurentees of sucess
  • And if it fails, YOU bear all the consequences YOURSELF
  • Which makes [t the so-called "suckers bet".
  • And I am NOT recommending it

I am not sure what the OP is seeking.

if he is really looking for a one year VISA (based on retirement) the choices are very limited.

1. Back to back O/A visas which can only be obtained from the OP home country.

OR

2. If the OP is a UK citizen in receipt of a State old age pension a one year Multiple entry visa can be had.

Nothing else that I am aware of.

I have PM'd the most promising answer, so as not to drag us/me into confusion.

Thanks to all

  • Elite visa for 500k baht gives 5 years.

Multiple entries.

1 year stay for each entry.

Border hop at the end of each year or extension of stay (simple application) for 1,900 baht.

6 years possible before applying for a new visa.

Indeed. You have an extension of stay based on retirement. The OP it seems would have the same. He doesn't want to have the 800k in bank. Also sounds like does not want to visit imm each 12 months. Not possible!.

He could pay someone to do his online reports and do the forms for his extension and taxi him to imm annually. I fail to see his problem.

OP seems to be making a minor inconvenience into a major inconvenience.

At that age I would consider enjoying the money (800k) and forget about the elite card

if you plan to die here anyway and the red cross is taking your remains, what difference would it make if you don't have an elite card? .... :)

K.I.S.S.

Is it possible to get one year visas continuously.

Only if you " Show Immi the Money" .

How is he going to enjoy the 800k. He can't spend it because he needs to tie it up for getting a visa/extension every year. Buying the elite visa frees up 300k and he doesn't have to apply again for a visa for 6 years.

Possible but not legal.

He can just show a letter from his embassy for B 65 000 / month and keep his B 800 k in the bank and have B 900 k in the bank after 5 years and you will have how much after 5 years?

I assume he doesn't have a pension income of 65k pm. If he does then you are right.

But his question was about getting a "one year visas continuously". A 5 year elite visa gives 1 year stays and only needs to be applied for every 6 years which was the reason I mentioned it.

B800k in bank in LOS.

You're not extending a visa. A visa allows you to enter the country. You don't have that option if you only have an extension of stay, which is why if you wish to exit Thailand and return you would need to get a re-entry permit in lieu of your now expired visa.

You are getting an extension of STAY, which means you have permission to STAY IN the country.

It is not semantics or being pedantic. A visa and an extension of stay are two different things. There have been numerous posts by those who do not appreciate the difference and find themselves in a bad place because they mistakenly thought they had extended a visa.

Just because you don't understand the distinction between the two doesn't mean that people who do understand are being pedantic. Aside from that, misusing the term "visa" in a thread like this means that those responding don't know whether the person posing the question is asking about getting a visa outside Thailand or getting an extension inside Thailand.

I have read about the "correct" definitions. We still know the use thereof, thank you.

He can just show a letter from his embassy for B 65 000 / month and keep his B 800 k in the bank and have B 900 k in the bank after 5 years and you will have how much after 5 years?

Depending on his Embassy the letter will simply say "X has attested that he has an income of 65K baht PCM". That particular Embassy doesn't verify that the income actually exists.

As mentioned by some members here, Disparate Dan wants to get a VISA which allows him to enter Thailand and to request an extension of stay (1 year) at Thai Immigration. Before the first extension of stay will expire he wants to repeat the application for a extension of stay at immigration in Thailand in order to stay for a second year in Thailand - without showing up B 65 K / month or B 800 K or travelling back to his home country to apply again for a VISA and subsequently for an extension of stay at Immigration in Thailand and so on..

I assume theat a short travel to a country nearby requesting there a new visa would not to be a real obstacle for the OP.

Question: Would the Thai immigration accept this new visa and application for an new extension of stay (for the second year of stay)?

------------------------

Basically, as described above, the answer is No.

Yes he could leave the country before his first extension finished, and that exit without a re-entry permit would effectively end his first retirement extension.

He could then re-apply for another one year retirement extension after he returned but he would still need to meet the same financial requirements for that second extension as he did for the first one.

As long as you can meet the financial requirements each year you can renew your retirement visa/extension each year as it becomes due and you can do the extension each year indefinitely.

But each annual renewal requires you to show the same financial requirements for each renewal as you showed for the first one,

Another possibility is if you can come up with the 500,000 Baht for the Thai Elite Card and a 5 year visa, that would also be a possibility.

But the reality is, either way it is going to cost you money.

I have decided...

1. To continue my retirement extension.

2. I will use UK gov. pension, releasing about .200k, (ubonjoe). (I have 2 savings accounts, one with the 800K (untouched)*****, and another running a/c with 300K.

Again thanks to all who helped me arrive at this. It was the uncertainties and disagreements on interpretations that guided me.

******* I used to keep it on deposit, but the minimal interest versus the immediate availability via ATM was the decider.

For those who PM'd I could not respond in person..'cos...

If you think you know and show as you don't know means you still don't know what you're writing about.
