Nigeria is actually a nice place, I've been there and had a thoroughly good time, wish I could say the same for poor old SA, armed holdup capital of the world.

In what dimension is Nigeria a nice place?

'All he shouted was "money!"'- now why didn't he go toTV's own Thai language forum and ask for a translation of: "Freeze! This is a hold-up, nobody moves and nobody gets hurt!" first. At the Buffalo bridge branch too.

They would never have understood his Thai with Aussie accent.

More quality tourism. What more can one expect from a country built off the back of convict labor?

Another ridiculous statement from one with little knowledge, and a propensity for parroting what another idiot has said.

Before I'm accused of not having a sense of humor, it was a funny line...........the first million times I heard it.

If you're a pom Mr J, you'd do well to remember where the 'convicts' honed their skills.

Been a busy action packed couple of days on our 'Aussies abroad naughty boy' list...first a Wests Tigers rugby league player Matthew Lodge arrested and put in the slammer in New York for stalking and assaulting two women, then a Aussie Rules player Isaac Heeney gets his jaw broken in Hong Kong. Now this one...looking at a few years by the looks of things I fear!!

it's amazing what vulnerable people will do to get out of a bad situation..?

You are mistaken "stupid" with vulnerable,....!

Well I was always thinking and wondering how long it will take till somebody pulls down a bank robbery or a gold shop job.....if he had a real gun it would be much easier for him to get away.....he could simply shoot out his way....pure violence always works.....but come on only 170000 bhat he could make much more in a good run on the casino in an hour....dont know how long they will lock him up in thailand...someone here suggests 25 y. in the gutter...well quiet along holiday ....but the good news is in the bkk jail u can fight your way out...so in any way violence always pays in the end.....

II seriously doubt a 23yr old farang ice cream sellers assistant is going to win a prison muai Thai tournament and his freedom .... But it's nice to dream sometimes :)

You may profess to have a sense of humour but you could actually read the posts a bit harder, the poster clarified he is a skippy....so in terms of your post quite correctly you have suggested convicts honed their skills in Aussie...:)

Well, I suppose robbing a bank with a BB Gun and shouting "Money" is smarter than giving them a Stick Up Note written on the back of your Hotel Bill, but ot by much.

What a terrible way to waste the next 5 or 10 years of your life. Anything has got to be better than a Thai Prison. Gosh! All for 170,000 Baht. I am speechless when I read stuff like this. .

Well he faces 25 years in Thai jail to think about his actions......

And then what a convict ship back to Aussie... ohmy.png

It never ceases to amaze me that so many here are so uneducated and ignorant, that they do not yet realise that it was over two hundred years ago that Australia had anything to do with convict communities. These people really need to get some education, poor muppets ! rolleyes.gif

The key words here are no return ticket , how did he board a flight without one, they only let you on generally without a return when you have a business visa or Married , so they will be checking this closely from now on, the lad has just found out why you don't rob a bank in Thai , you will get caught, Thai banks generally don't have clear exits paths and good traffic flow like in the west and most have armed guards inside , just don't bother trying it. coffee1.gif

Not entirely correct. I recently returned on an 'O' visa with a one way ticket !

Oh dear....and the lack of humour is just outright sad....

all the Aussies i have ever know personally have a great sense of humour on this subject...

but it seems when the old "blues" and "cobbers" retire to thailand their sense of humour starts reducing, maybe something to do with the value of their pensions ? Dont sweat it put another shrimp on the barbie and dont rob any banks....:D

BTW before you start attacking another poster with similar comments....he is an Aussie...

Spoken like a true well breed upstanding muppet -

Suggest a quick read of the following - just for your education ...

Well I was wondering how long it would take to get that kind of reaction. Almost a world record. It's called irony Sunshine! I'm from the Land Downunder and we have a sense of humor. It appears you've lost yours.

Thanks for your amazing piece of wisdom Mr Johnson. We can now, with your advice be aware that all Germans are sure to be Nazi's and that any Japs wondering around will surely have a "head lopping" Samuri sword stached away somewhere . What a relief to have been forewarned !

Does anyone here know for a fact as to what sort of punishment he is facing?

..."for a fact", no. Speculating...

I think the twenty five years mentioned is the upper end for worst case armed bank robbery. Serious bad guys with serious guns and injuries. I did read somewhere a while ago around ten was more probable and he may be able to plea that down much further given it was toy, intentions poor and just feeble, I am sure he has glowing references yet to come to light, cooked breakfast for the homeless before he went to work at the ice-cream parlour Monday to Friday and knew Mother Theresa.

Authorities don't like these crimes however even if not upper end impact-serious as they tend to sponsor another. If i were to find a range to punt on, I would hazard a guess more like six to ten. The parole side is where he will get early exit so possibly the sentence goes higher. It was a bank though...meh.

An aside. His actions has caused me some reflection on the nature of pity. I pity the boy. We have castigated his stupidity, rightly. I doubt he understood anything in Thailand as being real. Money, the girls, beer, the life a young man has with cash on soi cowboy...However, I am sure his incarceration has already centered his actions, he just was not able to evaluate, to correlate the penalty that moment before he left his flat for an airfare home as he says. He must now do lengthy time. I hope he can mentally adjust to this quickly.

I am not ameliorating his actions just bemoaning the unchecked vortex that drew him in. His act was stupid but i pity him.

Beautifully placed question.. ... ...

Apidge, do you have a history of humor ? because you have started one now!

Why not start the prequel thread, re the ticket..

This is the site that never stops giving...

What a bogan. Quality tourist from Arsetralia.

don't be too harsh. What can you expect from an entire continent that has never won a Noble prize? Not exactly a think tank...
