I have always struggled to buy big white nice roses in the past whenever i have ventured to wawarot market.

Can any members advise where can I get some? Do i need to order in advance or can i go to some other place that has them? Do all the places put them into a nice bouquet rather than a couple of sheets of the bangkok post which is what i have received in the past?

any real florists about rather than market traders near there?

If you tell the vendors at Warrarote Market that you want a nice bouquet, they will make one up for you, asking your preference for ribbon color, and bundling it all up in clear plastic rather than newsprint. You just have to tell them what you want.

There are some real flower shops, proper shops with glass and aircon, in Wararot Market, not just streetside flower vendors selling out of plastic buckets. You have to get off your motorscooter and walk around. Of course, your not going to pay 60 baht for a bouquet either.

thanks both for the advice, I will be sure to look. previously when I have ventured to the traders and the glass fronted shops behind them in warawot market i have been disappointed by the quality size and availability of white roses.

fully aware that proper made up bouquets are more expensive in Thailand as they are everywhere in my experience and fully expecting to pay more. I am just disappointed by the lack of availability and quality from what i have seen when i have ventured there on three or four occasions in the past.

i will have a look and report back, thanks again both

A few weeks back at the weekly (Tuesday) Mae Rim plaza market, there were a very good selection of roses. Many colours and wrapped in either paper or plastic. Not a bouquet as such but at 20 baht for about 15-20 long stems it was exceptional value.

I believe the local hilltribe people grow and sell them.

Depending on weather conditions, white could be problematic. White roses attract rose thrips (a type of insect) and it's possible that you were looking for white roses during a time when they were especially active and the growers were simply having problems turning out decent looking white roses. If you broadened your criteria to include other colors, you may find some good-looking roses.

I recall there was a florist on the opposite side of the road to Maharaj Nakorn Hospital about seven years ago that had a thriving trade with a fair selection bouquets etc....

I bought some more roses (Including some beautiful white ones) at the Mae Rim Tuesday market a week ago.

As it's Tuesday again I intend to get some more this afternoon. Price went up from a fortnight ago....now 30 baht for about 15 stems. Still very cheap by my books. Hell in NZ you pay about 250 baht per stem leading up to Valentines day.... about 50 baht on an average day.

I've noticed the last few weeks that the vendor sells out rather quickly. Good product and good price is probably the reason. Blooms last about a week which is fine....They look better than artificial flowers any day.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHGRHhh!!!

wawarot market.
Warrarote Market
Wararot Market
warawot market

(I learned fairly early on in CM that if you can't pronounce Warorot (and very few people can) then for ($(#@'s sake just do like the locals and call the place Kad Luang. :P )

Ive never heard of it being referred to ad Kad Luang before and no doubt people will probably call it / spell it Cad Laing or Cat Louang !!!

Not sure about Mae Rim market today.... very steady rain out here at the moment. Has been raining for the last 15 minutes and still very grey outside

Mae Rim Plaza market every Tuesday. Starts approx. 3pm but most vendors are properly open around 4pm. Market starts to close up at around 7pm dependant on weather and customers.

Yesterday there werent too many vendors due to the weather. Unforcasted rain began at about 330pm and continued till about 8pm. This put quite a damper on things however the food vendors braved the elements and around 630pm a found a man selling roses. I managed to get some white and some apricot coloured ones this time. Price dropped back to 20 baht per bunch.....but then there were only 8 stems in the bunch. Clever marketing!!!
