Hey Everyone,

How do you all deal with ants in your house? We moved into a new house and our kitchen is constantly infested. I've tried the chalk, aerosol spray, and caulking every opening and crack they are coming through, but it's never-ending! Just bought some Chaindrite Steedfast 30 SC (although I don't read Thai so I don't know how much to mix with water) and I'll let you know how that goes.

Any advice?

Thanks in advance!

just spray the Chaindrite surface spray everywhere in the morning before you leave for 3-4 hours, then when you return open up for an hour to air out the smell...

all ants shoud be either dead or gone ........

repeat after 2.5 months.

yes, make sure it's the surface spray and not the ordinary spray,

I think the surface spray lasts about 3 months.

Just put the nozzle on the can an spray in all the cracks and crannies, along the skirting where they congregate, in the corners in the cupboards.

cover all your food of coarse with plastic so no fumes get near it.

spray the complete can on any surface down low, up high, in the crevices, under the fridge, behind the drawers, under the sink, wherever the ants meet and talk.

just surface spray the kitchen............ but shift & cover your food for the day ..... it is poisonous

not sure , is that a can ? and did it come with a plastic nozzle ( a tube 8" that you put on the spray outlet )

it looks ok, just can't tell if it's surface spray or not ......... maybe work ok ...

but the one I get is a tall Chaindrite can ....

I'm just remembering that the shop owner said it was for plants and soil, so I'm going to grab a can of what you recommended.

Thanks for the help

ok, just tell him you want the surface spray ..... and remember to shift your food to a safe place for the day and cover it with plastic so absolutely no spray get near it.

just spray the corners and all the cracks and along skirting boards where they meet the floor ....... wear a cheap paper mask if you can when spraying .... it does smell somewhat and you shouldn't breath any in.

Chaindrite powder against ants , beetles , termites and cockroaches. ( available at Tesco )

Sprinkle around the house and on the walking path of the ants.

They take it into their nest and they all die.

Not have any problem for 3 years already.

Good luck.

That seems a better alternative than spraying the surfaces in your kitchen

the chalk worked very well for me,we had about 5 different ants in our kitchen, from

ones you could hardly see,(but give the worst bite) to big black ones that

only seem to come out at night, and only have a few members in the colony,

the chalk wiped them all out in a few hours, dead ants everywhere.

There is also this BASF stuff, I think it is illegal in the rest of the world. You may find it on a local market. Kills everything thoroughly.

Thanks for the advice guys. I think the ants are building nests within our foundation... I came across a stack of wooden coasters in a holder and when i grabbed on, I realized that there were hundreds of larva and whenver I see what looks like little pieces of sawdust, I'm realizing that ants are making a home. So if they're already inside, spraying the outside won't help. Know of any extermination services?

Are you sure those weren't termites? At any rate, the poison I usually use is ARS brand bait traps. They're ittle transparent yellowish green plastic objects that you fill with a granulated poison packed in a separate envelope. If ants are attracted to it, they take the bait back to the nest and poison the rest of the family.. As long as the ants take it, it's 100% effective. I get it at Lotus. A few kinds of ants don't like. For them I use something called Quantum from Bayer. It's a somewhat thick clear liquid. It's also very effective. I get it at Rimping.

No no no!

Do not use that inside. It will kill the family.

That is for termites and what pest controller uses in the garden.

You dilute this 1:50 with water and its still lethal.

Masks a must.

the chaindrite you need is the orange capped aerosol with the crevice nozzle attached. Costs 60 /70 bt for large can.

Take care; dont excuse yourself for not being able to read thai you may regret it one day.

Most of us dont read Thai.

A safer and just as effective solution is using boric acid mixed with water and sugar. About once a year the ants seem to arrive and I mix up a batch, put it where they are hanging out, and they are gone in less that 24 hours. The boric acid mix is taken back to the mound and used to feed the queen. She dies, the mound dies.

I've always used my nan's old solution of borax mixed with something strong and sweet smelling like pineapple juice or passionfruit pulp but for the first time it has let me down and it didn't work on the very small bitey ants that I get in the kitchen. Chaindrite spray is the only thing that shifts them.

Can anyone tell me if the Chaindrite powder smells as strong as the spray? I'm just thinking that it might last a little longer than the spray.

For 5 years now I have had Chiang Mai Pest Control (Kuhn Utai speaks adequate English: 081-951-3149) take care of the spraying at my place. When I moved here the house had been vacant for some time, except for millions of ants all over, top to bottom. The guys at the pest control came out and sprayed everything, trees, lawn, and throughout the house. Lots of death that day.

Since then I've had very little problem with ants and other critters. I have an annual contract with them; 12 visits (at your discretion) for 4,000 baht, including the massive spray to kill everything. If needed they also will do subterranean bombing and fumigation. I am very satisfied with their service.

It does work great on most ants. But certain ants don't like sweets. I'm pretty certain that the ants that like sweets go for the Ars brand poison. But the Quantum works on the other kind. I just squeeze out a few drops on their path and put more in a bottle cap nearby. In a couple of days they're gone.

Not really..... They still come but just not as many. I got an orange bottle of chaindrite meant to be mixed with water and sprayed outside, then I got a can of bug spray for the kitchen and that seemed to work for 2 days. I recently bought a couple of ARS traps (with the poison in a separate bag) that was recommended and I'll have to get back to you about how well that works. I'm still hopeful!

Might just have to build a moat around the house :P

I would rather live with ants than in a poisoned house. Funny how people are so concerned with all the pesticide residue on their food but trust 3rd world pest control companies to not poison them. I follow their trails inside and just plug their holes, keep food in sealed containers, wipe down counter tops. thumbsup.gif
