White Goods Disposal

Featured Replies

I have an old top loading washing machine that I need to dispose of. Is there a place that does this in CM or do I do it Thai style and dump it next to a rural road?

You give to relatives if usable or let the folks in pickups that come around buying such used items take away for you (at least here in Bangkok that is the most common method)..

It's starting to destroy itself. It leaves small particles in the drum.

I've only seen the paper/glass recyclers come round here.

That is normally pushcart here in Bangkok - the folks that buy tv/washers/sofa and such drive pickups and normally have loudspeakers calling out.

Are you sure those particles are not dried detergent? If you use detergents made for US type washers they tend to stick on the outside of wash tub and you get a huge buildup that starts to flake off and contaminate after awhile - remove tub and clean the outside of it to remove and then use Japanese detergent, such as Pao.

I see the same problems with many coin washers...I think it is the old bushings getting chewed up. It is more frequent on the smaller machines, so I suspect it has to do with overloading.

The Burmese will take any scrap of value. A washer doesn't have a refrigerant charge, so they can do about as good of a job as anyone.

The missus tells me she's seen the scrap man, so sorted. We did take it to a repairman near Amorn on the moat but he was clueless. I did want to get it fixed up so someone else could get some use out of it, but it's not to be.

It's a 13.5kg Samsung top loader. I did think about taking it to another place just off the East side of the moat, but I really can't be bothered and want it gone so the missus can park her scooter in it spot.
