Bon Cafe off the Shelves in Makro. Anyone Know the reason?

Makro and now Lotus Kamthien have become mismanaged jumbled up mess' in the past nearly year.

Do make sure if there is some product that you cannot find , especially in Makro, ask at the office desk. For the past few months someone has had the brilliant idea of relocating items, sometimes several aisles away. So things may just be relocated as opposed to being discontinued. This coupled with the ridiculous pallets and forklifts blocking aisles has really slowed down my shopping at Makro...... They both are not thinking of the good for the customer being good for them also, but rather whats good for them and to hell with the customer. Products that regular customers have known where located for over 15 years, now may be relocated to the other side of the story...... just my opinion that it indicates different thought process by management. Another example of local thinking, "me-ism" vs "we-ism"

Douwe Egberts 500g 'Standard' (the 'Premium' is about B10 more) works for me and is cheaper than Bon Cafe, which IIRC is only sold in 250g.

I use it in a drip filter for morning brew.

I lived in Melbourne, so know about good coffee. Granted, some espresso-at-home fanbois may disagree, but if you just want something that is agreeable with a splash of milk to get you started, you could do worse...

Hi Gonzo, I don't think that's the case as the labels for the product were still on the shelf, but it said 'sold out'. Also note that another poster mentioned it was gone from Rimping as well.

I like shopping at Makro as I find parking fairly easy, and the check out lines are always fairly short.. (As opposed to big C with long lines, and few registers open.)

I think it's just p!ss poor stock management. Last week, there seemed to be a few items I wanted & shelves were bare. TiT

And when they close aisles for forklift operations, I cross the barrier & make sure they see me & stop work while I get what I, the customer, wants.

There's loads of independent coffee shops and suppliers all over Chiang Mai.Just need to do a bit of homework.

Google and fb or ask when you buy a coffee and it is appealing to your taste

Far better choices than Bon Caffe IMO. Alti roast their own in Hang Dong and wholseasale to many coffee shops.

Also available retail at Bakers Mart.

Sorry guys, there's other coffee snob threads. I liked the bon cafe mainly because it's inexpensive, and has a reasonable quantity.

I thought there might something peculiar going on since it was out at Makro and Rimping. Perhaps nothing interesting.

I buy the Sole Cafe brand in Makro. It's only 280 baht per 1kg packet of beans and is great for the morning start up. Tastes fine too. I can't go back to instant now....which can be a hassle when staying in hotels. But we all have to make sacrifices every now and then. Does that make me a coffee snob?:Woo Who!

Makro is unbelievable. There are approximately 35 stores in Thailand. They do not use a cash register sales for maintaining their stock levels. They go through occasionally and physically count the stock with a scanner. Frequently they are out of stock all all kinds except the things you don't want to buy like palm oil. Not sure why such a big store like this is so poorly organized. When the Dutch sold to CP it was like this. No one in thier right mind would operate a big dynamic business like this without computerized stock control. on Cafe and Oatmeal, small bottles of Coke Zero are just three items that they are out of. When you ask about new stock the fools always tell you soon. They refuse to do restocking after the store closes and the isles are always full of fork lifts. THE MANAGEMENT IS SICK!

DonaldBattles, I'm happy that someone else has noticed this.....I concur and fully agree with you 100+%, with the exception that it didn't use to be this way until some time in the past year, and I have shopped at the Makro on the Hwy for now close to 20 years. Its like the staff have taken over the management and are doing what they want in the way they want..... meaning no management.

Went to Makro Super Highway yesterday for duck, they were out of legs and breasts. Guess I could do confit duck tongues but wasn't really what I had in mind, maybe they want to keep the frozen meat fresh and only keep a little in stock. The fresh meat wiegh station besides being disgusting has 20 ppl fighting over on window that is bearly reachable.

Need i say ?,too much Coffee is bad for you .

According to the latest research, too little is also bad for you. Which is another way of saying that coffee is actually good for you if you drink up to 3 cups per day.

Mahasarakham Makro had it last week. For me Douwe Egberts beats Bon Cafe any time.

Years ago when I was new to Thailand I bought Douwe Egberts at Tops. They sold it under it's Spanish name.

Absolutely disgusting taste, I even threw away the packet, and that means something coming from a cheap Charlie.

Maybe bad luck (somebody spit - or worse - in the packet?) or maybe quality has improved now?

Anyway, for years I used to bring kilos of coffee to Thailand on each European trip.

Until I discovered Bon Café at Macro and Doi (the brown carton) at Tops.

Don't tell me Bon Café is finished & I have to bring suitcases full of coffee again?

So that's the sum total of your coffee "expertise"? cheesy.gif

I liked your post, even though I think that you finished it with an idiotic enervating retarded emoticon. You might want to grow up. But I agree with your post. Except for the emoticon. Am I clear?

Bon Cafe is a large operation in thailand. They have a big roasting and R&D facility in Chonburi. You may rest assured they have been and will be around for many years. I like their moca flavor. The have their own stores in many cities in thailand such as Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai.

All I meant was, I know a good cup vs a bad cup.

I didn't realise one had to be a barista to post here, but I give as good as I get, so I suppose this little exchange above is not a defence of my post but just one obnoxious fcuker trolling another, go for it you sad old losers, I'm unfollowing.

Thanks to everyone else who was mature enough to simply keep it civil and on topic.
