"punish those who participate in a campaign to wear red shirts"

...

"Prayut also insisted that he would never use his special powers without proper reason."

Discrediting Prayuth works best by just using his own words.

You left out part of his quote - let me help you complete it.

............in support of former premier Yingluck Shinawatra on Sunday".

It has a whole new meaning now

Not really. It only shows he has fear.

By allowing people their civil liberties would show respect,

The man (and I use that term loosely) is paranoid as hell, and scared shitless. He HAS to exert hit "authority" and "power" by these stupid, imbecilic "warnings" in order to salve his ego.

Good point.

There is a public relations pas de deux being enacted now.

It will be interesting to see how the performance develops.

This is getting stupid....really....you have rubber farmers doing rallies and mobs in Bangkok now and yet there are not getting arrested as they are from the South and yet.....for people to merely wear red and not hold rallies....its a no no.....all my thai friends and neighbours who actually hate the Shnawatras and the Pheu Thai are actually going to wear Red this Sunday as they hate being told by the Army and the General as to what they can and cannot wear. I think that the NCPO really needs a good PR Company to help them....all that they are doing....maybe unconciously despite their good concerns for the country, is making more and more poeple hate them each day.....which can be a bad thing for the country eventually. Thsy should focus on important things like the economy and also doing more to help the people while also prosecuting all politicians from the past from all parties and also all corrupt govrnment officals and all those who cheated the country from the past and confisticate their assets along with those of all the various thai chinese business monopolies and redistribute them to the poor. This would win them great support from the masses.

Massive climbdown by the junta. So they have realised they are unable to prevent a large-scale political rally taking place, and they have realised they are unable to prevent the people wearing red shirts. The reds now know that the junta knows it can't arrest everybody. A significant development.

Don't cause trouble if your wearing a red shirt on Sunday, you will get arrested and stain your name. Wear yellow and start trouble instead and you will be given praise and your name shall be put on the hero list.

Sad, the powerful PM still one sided. When will Thai people be one color? This reform is not working. A change of personality and perhaps a change of leadership is what we need. Move aside PM, your creating divide, let someone else have a go.

Just a thought. Imo

The members of the red brigade are all, 'en masse', on the barricade today,so it seems, using the same language as in dark days from not long ago...

Mind you, they will complain tomorrrow about the lack of freedom of expression, while they are allowed to publish 'their'(?) 'opinion'(?) on TV today...

Do you guys realise your comments make it more obvious than the nose in the middle of the face this 'red Sunday' thing is indeed 'POLITICAL', very much so, then, please, have at least the intellectual honesty to admit it, don't go on stubbornly, falsely, pretending it is not, please!

Can't you see there is only a 'dilemma' for Thailand, the present, alas, mislead, misguided, brainwashed red-movement, used and abused by the Shins for their own interests, is a lethal poison for the Kingdom's future, and the yellow stuff is about as bad as the red stuff (though a lot less violent), green and brown uniforms can't be 'the solution' either, no, the absence of ANY decent alternative, in any foreseeable time, is tantalizing. All political parties and movements should IMHO indeed have been disbanded and banned, to start all afresh, towards a real 'democracy' this time, 'changes and reforms' they said, but whether 'the generals' didn't have enough support to do it, or their plan was just to consolidate their own powers and profits, it will be another huge missed opportunity to go into the Thai History books (when these would ever depict all the reality of true facts, that is...)! Sad, so sad, for the Thais in the first place, but also for all those who fellin love with this country and its, true, people!

There can never be an election until the sovereign powers know that their side cannot lose.

he definitely see's himself as some sort of Quetzalcoatl 'shining one' who should return and stay

Everyone I have asked this week about 30 people said they're wearing red on Sunday. And when I asked why? They gave me a reply but in Thai, "Ear" or something like that. I think they mean he doesn't' listen to people and his deaf to what the poor people want. I shall be wearing red for Manchester United. Come on you reds.

What is the travel advice for tourists on Sunday from the embassies? My advice would be avoid wearing red and stay away from democracy monument near koh sarn road and Central World shopping Mall. Anyone got any updates?

You may be aware that the Thai word for 'ear' also has a different colloquial meaning, one that is closer to what I would call the good general.

But of course you knew that already you rascal.

No updated travel advise. Still if I do think that foreigners should avoid wearing red or yellow shirts tomorrow. Stay safe.

I dont think anyone would condemn yellow, which just about says it all

"established sovereign power" frightening

Use of the word 'sovereign' in Thailand is not recommended.

I assume by sovereign power he means power authorised by the king.

"Absolute authority" sounds a bit like that word beginning with "D" that we're not allowed to use.

I would think he needs to be a bit careful. Unless he's thinking of staying PM forever and keeping the army on his side or escaping to another country there will come a time when he's an ex PM like Yingluck and he seems to be creating a lot of enemies that he doesn't need to.

Can I still wear my red underpants and red string vest in public?

Only if you are in a beachside bar in Pattaya- but be prepared to be asked why you are dressed formally.
