Ministry of Labor tends to foreign workers’ quality of life

BANGKOK, 28 October 2015 (NNT) – The Ministry of Labor tends to ensuring the quality of life of foreign employees in Thailand, said the ministry's deputy undersecretary Suwit Sumala.

While tackling problems related to the human trafficking issue, declared as national agenda by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, the Ministry of Labor also sees to it that foreign employees will be legally protected regarding their working conditions, safety and benefits.

That is to ensure the foreign workers’ quality of life while ethnic discriminations are not allowed under the Thai law, he said.

The Ministry of Labor has called on employers to provide due benefits for their employees in order to increase productivity and promote loyalty at workplaces under enhanced relationships between the two sides.

Labour Ministry steps up trafficking elimination roadmap for 2016

BANGKOK, 28 October 2015 (NNT) – The Ministry of Labour has established the 2016 roadmap for human trafficking eradication operations with deeper cooperation with the related agencies and a definite time frame, an official says.

The chairman to the Prevention of Human Trafficking on Labour Operation Center's (PHTLOC) meeting, Suvit Sumala, unveiled the Ministry of Labour’s plan to eradicate human trafficking, stating that authorities are working to clarify the terminologies of trafficking, forced labour, and debt bondage to help with the operations capacity. Provincial level plans have also been announced for future implementation.

He said that the meeting established the road map for trafficking elimination operations for the 2016 fiscal year, which will be carried out in three phases, namely the urgent phase, middle phase, and long term phase.

The roadmap will call for the establishment of elimination strategies in the national and provincial levels, the writing of the draft TIP report, the amendment of related laws, nationality verification, terminology clarification, and the prosecution of officials and other persons involved in trafficking cases.

Operations under the PHTLOC will be reviewed and reported every Thursday by all participating agencies, while the outcome will be reported to the Minister of Labour on a weekly basis. All related agencies will be in constant communication to report their operations to the ministry.

Thailand: Hub of Roadmaps (that take the long way and/or lead to nowhere)

Where I live, the roads are always under construction.

Me too here in Bangkok...unfortunately, it's usually repair of what they constructed last year. And in other cases there is so much expanding/repairing of the current roads the constructions causes constant traffic jams.

Since when? I was under the impression that the minimum wage for an employee from a neighboring country was lower than that of a Thai citizen. It is also true that the minimum wage for a farang is higher. So which is it?

The burning question: Are all those English Teachers classified as Foreigners or Farangs?

Cheers.

Who knows. But what I know is that my employment could be terminated at the end of my contract after 15 years of service (even though my teaching position still exists), and they would owe me nothing (Private school - they don't even offer a Provident Fund. If they are just talking about better quality huts for Cambodians, then that is a different matter.

No it's not. farang is a foreigner, but a foreigner is not necessarily a farang.
