Fuel consumption rises on lower prices

BANGKOK:-- Gasohol 95 consumption in September jumped 21.48 per cent from the same month last year, along with the consumption of all types of fuel thanks to low prices, according to the Energy Ministry.

In the month, the consumption of gasohol 95 - which contains 10 per cent of ethanol - reached 9.12 million litres a day, compared to only 7.51 million litres in the same period last year. Gasohol 91 - also with similar ethanol ratio but higher octane - also showed the 8.28 per cent increase on year to 10.81 million litres. Meanwhile, the daily consumption of E20, with 20 per cent ethanol mixture, reached 4.1 million litres, up by only 8.84 per cent despite its low base.

Diesel consumption rose only 2.12 per cent to 54.75 million.

Compared to the same period last year, diesel price dropped by only Bt4 a litre, against Bt10-Bt12 for gasohol products.

Areepong Bhoocha-oom, Energy permanent secretary, noted that low prices encouraged more consumption and more imports which would hurt the economy in the long term. All car owners should be concerned about fuel efficiency and use more E20 and E85 depending on compatibility of their vehicles.

Dear Old John, The Brit Parrot.

Use of G95 increased by over 21% because E20 and E85 is only cost efficient in a very small number of vehicles if you factor in its poorer gas mileage. The long term efects of 20% Ethanol is still unknown.

This is fascinating: Gasohol 91 (91 Octane) is called 91 because the octane is higher than Gasohol 95 (95 Octane). Flabbergasting!

What do you expect??? Look more consumption in the USA when gas prices fell about a dollar a gallon from last year, cheaper than flying,... What do you want people to stay home and spend nothing or what????
