Kids create gangs because their communities and society at large is not fit for purpose. The gangs offer more than real society. The ideals of real society is just mom's apple pie fantasy for many kids whose aspirations are doomed and they know it. As for.more prison sentences. It does not work. Prisons are finishing schools foe criminals. Make the kids as wealthy as the undeserving HiSo children of the power elite- give them a stake in their society - police them with their consent not as an army of occupation. When kids form Violent gangs it is because they have been failed and they are fighting back for not just material things but more complex aspects of self validification

Yes we have a growing gang problem throughout The UK now. It is much worse than years ago. And just because we know the psychology of gang membership does not mean we are soft on it or approve of it. Youth on youth killing is making some estates unlivable and destroying needless lives.

re : the silly comment about self validification: The need for self validification is the same for me and you and for all people. Alienated people who are really angry kick back. And some of them get organised-into gangs which gives them a social structure, albeit criminal with goals, roles and activities and support which their miserable schools and run down communities did not provided them with.
