Thai at Heart
He was speeding and people died. In the criminal code isn't that some form of at least manslaughter. Who the hell thinks up these punishments?
clockman
That is Thai justice, make of it what you will ? Life is cheap.
from the home of CC
Social media may end up slowly changing the Thai justice system. The stronger the public indignation (and the resulting loss of face from the culpable parties) the quicker things get acted upon. The squeaky wheel gets the grease and Thais are just starting to squeak. beano2274
that is the equivalent of one days income for the company, should have been one months income that way they and the drivers learn something.
Artisi
Just rereading the article, and see it was the transport department who decided on the fines and licence cancellation - let's hope the police think differently.

How about 1 years income for each death and 6 months for each injury - make it meaningful not pussy-footing around.
trainman34014
Therein lies the problem of Thailand's roads.....almost zero law enforcement and punitive punishment for serious offenders. Don't bet on it changing soon because if anyone could get it sorted it's the man running the country right now.....but he does nothing whatsoever to resolve the problem. petedk
Thais obviously just don't give a fig about their people dying on the roads.....from the grass roots to the PM....! I guess it's just a bit of bad luck for the victims..... Don't forget that word is banned under article 44 He might have said it in jest, but it was taken quite seriously in certain quarters: The term "rakya" (grass roots) is banned. In its place, Thais should use "low-income people" or "less educated people", Deputy Premier and Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwan says. The reason behind this abrupt declaration of a new linguistic order? "I am exercising my absolute power under Article 44 to ban the term 'rakya' because Thailand doesn't have a class problem. No more 'ammart' ['elites'] and the like."
oldsailor35
I suppose if it were tourists in the bus perhaps the fines would have been a little heavier as the accident would be causing bad publicity for the tourism industry.

So let me remind you: Hannah and David have been murdered, the culprits are walking free. Inspite the world is watching, without shame, they send 2 innocent Burmeses scapegoat to jail. People from Chili on a bicycle trip around the world, were killed here....The thai driver was fined few thousands baht. Same as the couple from Uk, killed also on thai road...The thai driver was fined few thousands baht...... thats deja vu! etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc

Would you ride on the back of a motorbike with no crash helmet? Of course not, so why do it here???? You have a duty of care to protect your own life.
