Justice is served...just ask the victims families.

Totally disgusting and the victims families should be rightfully enraged

You and others are thinking like a farang, not a Thai. People are dead, and throwing someone in jail isn't going to change that, nor is it going to discourage others from driving like maniacs. Thais do whatever they what, where they want, how they want and when they want, because there is zero concept of responsibility - especially among males who are brought up from birth to believe they can do no wrong. Parental discipline is often non-existent or even protective of obnoxious behaviour..There is also little or no law enforcement.

The Thai way, usually, is to offer cash compensation as well as the wai and grovelling apology. How many times have we read of that happening, hum? In my own village, a kid on a motorbike killed another kid, and the police didn't even get involved. The parents of the motorbike kid just handed over some cash. That way the family had at least something back for the death of their son. Throwing people in jail as punishment with little or no compensation is a western concept. Some might argue that the Thai way is more practical.

Yes, life is cheap in Thailand, for religious and cultural reasons. The idea of being reborn, the idea that what happens is meant to happen (the perfect excuse for complacency), and so on.

£65 fine per person that died!!!!!!! How will that teach them anything? Ive been in van accidents and even got out of one because the driver was a nutter - way too fast - found out later that van had crashed - I always use the bus or train now

back in WW2 fighter pilots had a kill tally painted on the side of their cockpits. these idiot drivers should have their kill tally marked upon the front doors or the bus, you could decide if you wanted to be the next before boarding then.....

Amazing how cheap life is here, 5,000 baht fine and 30 days license suspension. Then he back on the road again to kill more innocent people.

The operator is fined $60 per life lost, not to mention the injured. What is the Thai word for disgrace?

The 20 year old who killed my daughter in a one car accident got a $400 (14K THB) negligent driving fine and was back on the road again. US courts. What's the difference?

That is Thai justice, make of it what you will ? Life is cheap.

agree

the amount of the fine is in full accordance with the value of life in Thailand

Glad to have left the nanny state, but some laws in the old country make sense. In this case,"Death by dangerous driving", court, prison, license lost for life. 5,000 baht fine for f*cks sake. Get that for doing 35 in a 30 limit in England.

I'm horrified to hear that and dreadfully sorry. I suppose the only difference is that there was at least a court hearing (probably with some smart defence lawyer) rather than some government official deciding the fine.

My condolences and best wishes.
