Refugee influx into Germany 'could boost tobacco sales'

BERLIN: -- The influx of refugees into Germany could boost tobacco sales, according to industry analysts.

With many fleeing Syria where nearly half of men smoke, one estimate says the extra consumption could equate to a one percent increase in the tobacco market.

Another analyst said a preference for roll-ups and lower-end factory cigarettes could benefit companies like British American Tobacco and Imperial, who are strong in Germany.

There’s no estimate though of the long-term cost to the country’s health service.

Each year 120,000 deaths in Germany are linked to smoking.

No problem, they get free health insurance in Germany.

Say goodbye to a nice social system as it is currently overloaded. In 10 years, nobody in Germany gets free health insurance anymore. Or well, sure, the health insurance will cover only paracetamol. Should invite some consultants from Thailand how to do it.

People are more likely to smoke much if they're hungry and nothing else to do. Since most refugees and immigrants came to work (quite contrary from German scroungers), they'll cut down smoking or stop it.

Moslem women and children usually don't smoke anyway, Farang women do.

I believe the Koran prohibits Muslims doing anything that is detrimental to their body.. So smoking should be "haram" along with drugs and alcohol... But seems many of Allahs followers choose to ignore this fact...

Ya think, every news real report shows immigrants smoking heavily. Of course immigrants will

be shocked to find out the cost of tobacco in many European countries. This may make countries

with cheaper tobacco a little more palatable when migrants are dished out to other countries, but

more likely there will be a huge increase in cigarette smuggling to meet the demand. tongue.png

A package of cigarettes cost more than 200 THB in Europe. Leave it up to the refugees if they want to starve for smokes and eventually ruin their health.

Doesn't the Qoran ban "touching tobacco with lips"?

Since tobacco was an American plant that did not show up in Europe (and beyond) until the 1500's, if the qoran does say this, means that there has been some fiddling with the book since moh's time.

With the standard single immigrant welfare check of 20,000 baht/month they could afford a fair few packets of smokes? I mean their accomodation, travel, food, healthcare and electric is free so what the heck can they spend the 500 Euros on other than drink, drugs and smokes? Oh, and probably weaponry too. Some of these families will be on 100k + baht/month. They will no doubt be smoking Sobranie cocktails not some low end Gallagher rubbish.
