Thai ambassadors and consul generals worldwide are set to meet during Nov 12-14

BANGKOK, 8 November 2015 (NNT) - Thai ambassadors and consul generals worldwide are set to gather in Bangkok during November 12th to the 14th in their second meeting this year.

According to Director-General of the Information Department and Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Sek Wannamethee, 95 ambassadors and consul generals will gather for a meeting aimed at developing proactive diplomacy in a bid to drive Thailand’s economy forward. The group is set to discuss how to work in accordance with the government’s policy and increase Thailand’s benefits. The meeting will place special emphasis on trade, such as how to promote investment between Thailand and foreign countries.

Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha will join the meeting on November 13th to deliver his policies on how to support the work of the government with a direction and in unity. The policies will also focus on how to create confidence in Thailand, as well as create a good image for the country.

Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak will on the same day discuss and exchange views with the envoys on economic strategies. During the 3-day meeting, the National Reform Steering Assembly (NRSA) president will clarify the progress on the country's reformation. The ambassadors and consul generals will also meet with leading members of the private sector to gain information that will be useful to promoting the country’s businesses in the foreign market.

There have been so many comments by farangs on what the government needs to do to improve the economy. OK some are pure Thai bashing, but there have been some real practical suggestions which would make a big difference if followed. So for those who fear the government is reading all our posts, well maybe, but obviously they don't understand what is being written.

How ironic that they are meeting with our PM on the day the issuance of numerous Tourist Visas (double entry and triple entry) are abolished in favour of the far more difficult to obtain and restrictive M.E.T.V.

I hope this is raised (in the interest of visitors' "happiness").

Selling permanent residency would be a big earner.

I think the TE/PE option is the go between?

Bringing happiness to the people.

Voting in Myanmar today.

This will be a slap-up event you bet. First class air travel, luxury accommodation, gourmet meals, top shelf booze being sloshed around 24/7, chauffeur driven limousines, cocktail parties going on until the wee hours. All for what? Creating a good image to the world? My fat a....! The dreamtime images they would like to portray conflict with the real life images that appear daily in these columns. So they are going to promote investment from foreign countries. That sounds a lot like like they will be formally deciding what incentives foreign counties need to pay to do business in Thailand

Bringing happiness to the people.

Voting in Myanmar today.

Voting for some. Millions disenfranchised. A complete mockery.

One interesting by-product of the forthcoming visa changes is that it appears that embassies/consulates will be following the same rules and regulations for a change. I always thought it was wrong that each embassy could institute its own rules; will be watching to see what actually happens over time.

Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha will join the meeting on November 13th to deliver his policies. He might hand out this new color-coded roadmap to democracy so they can better make countries understand Thai democracy:

Sorry but I don't see " One interesting by-product of the forthcoming visa changes" that you are referring to

There is not one mention of visas, only on trade and:

developing proactive diplomacy

Whatever that buzz term is supposed to mean

Embassies and Consulates are fiefdoms and anyone that thinks that Bangkok can force them to follow the rules it issues doesn't understand how the system works
