I find it quite expensive in Thailand. Is there any place that sells them cheap(er).

Are there bigger bottles than 300ml? I would import it from UK, but Amazon does not deliver to Thailand. Any other online store?

BTW, regular (green) gaviscon. I find the double action one doesn't work as well for my LPR.

There are many antacid formulations apart from Gaviscon which all do the same basic job.

I wonder if your need for an antacid has been the subject of medical investigation ?

There may be better treatments available.

The regular use of an antacid is not usually advisable.

It is available in most Thai pharmacies in single use sachets which are relatively inexpensive if you don't want to purchase a whole bottle.

Much depends on how bad you suffer and what your prepared to pay,if I have a bad bout of acid indigestion I always use gaviscon.

No doubts there are cheaper alternatives.

The least expensive way if you are willing to buy it in bulk would be direct from the distributor:

If you can find me a LPR expert in Bangkok, I am all ears.

GI doctors are good, but I find they don't know much about LPR.

They can only treat GERD, but I don't have heartburn symptoms.

I am suspecting either too much or too little acid.

Other antiacid solutions don't really work as Gaviscon absorbs bile acid and Pepsin which I think is reaching my airways.

There's loads of well qualified and experienced GI doctors in Thailand, you should perhaps go see one, Sheryl will be able to recommend several I imagine.

It's a standard price .......... just pay it or get the cheaper one ..............whistling.gif

not worth discussing

What a heck does that mean

no, i'm just thinking there may be a cheaper brand if i recall ......... you may be able to get an alternative that works. Let me check some more ............

Laryngopharyngeal Reflux is not "unique" or "special" and any Gastroenterologist will understand what "it" is, its cause and know how to treat it.

Do you have any references for this "bile acid" and Pepsin being absorbed/inactivated by Gaviscon ?

Gastric(stomach) Acid has a Ph of some 2-3.5 (ie Very acid! )

Bile has a Ph of 5-6 (PH 7 is neutral) which means bile is only weakly "acid"

It is very unique as symptoms vary from one person to another. Most doctors have no clue how to treat this.

I have had an endoscopy done at private hospital. It showed a small hiatal hernia. The doc "confirmed" reflux and put me on 2 week ppi. But now I read the LPR therapy should be 2 months. As you can see they can't even correctly prescribe the medication.

Other geniuses thought I had asthma.

Thank you but the reference is unimpressive.

It does not relate to a properly controlled double blind clinical trail and , I suspect, was undertaken as a marketing ploy.

Gaviscon is ridiculously expensive, but it is the best. Sometimes I spluge and buy it.

I usually go for the yellow tablets in a clear plastic stip called Antacil. They work, available everywhere and cheap.

I have found something that works for indigestion, Buscopon, available everywhere. It stops the stomach spasming. Can be used with antacids. Read up on it. Sometimes it stops indigestion immediately, much better than an antacid at certain times.

Sodium bicarbonate tablets are very cheap. I bought 1000 tablets for under 100 baht. Pop a couple for mild indigestion. Pop a couple more as needed.

I eat everything and sometimes pay for it. Sometimes my stomach gets so bad I take Paracetamol and Codeine Tablets. That stops everything, but the codeine makes you a little crazy. Codeine also makes you constipated. It sucks but that's what I use as a last resort.

20 years ago I took Gaviscon every day until a gastroscopy revealed I had esophagitis : since then my doctor prescribed me first Zantac and later on still more powerfull Omeprazole capsules (Miracid in Thailand) : I have no longer acid reflux

a box of 14 capsules Miracid costs abt 65 Baht and one needs only one capsule a day : this is a cheap solution to prevent cancer of the esophagus

Since the OP's problem is reflux Buscopam not only will not help but may make matters worse.

PPIs and meds like cimetidine/zantac and gaviscon do not BTW stop or decrease reflux. Rather they make the stomach contents less acidic so that the reflux is less irritating. Though this reduction in the acidity of stomach contents is not without its drawbacks.

Measures that actually decrease reflux include:

- Weight loss

- Eating smaller amounts at a time

- Not eating for at least 2 hours before lying down

- Elevating the head of the bed, and if lying on something else like a couch using cushions to elevate head and upper chest

- Avoiding caffeine (weakens sphincter tone)

- And if all else fails, surgical repair

I am already at my ideal weight. I find that even if I drink water sometimes I will get a lump in throat feeling. I never consume alcohol (never did). I suspect my lpr is stress related.

I am pretty sure my hernia, although small, is also responsible for this in some way.

I mentioned before that breathing is my main issue. My breathing sometimes improves significantly when I take miracid. Sometimes it also improves when I take active carbon. I asked my doctor to prescribe me elavil because I read that airway reflux is caused by vagus nerve damage. When I took that it also helped, but I don't want to take antidepressants long term. I understand PPI's are bad news long term, but why do you think Gaviscon is (green, not pink).
