Model reveals nightmare result of her breast enlargement surgery by uncertified doctor

BANGKOK: -- A 24-year-old event model yesterday filed a complaint with the Paveena Hongsakul Foundation after having a breast augmentation operation that became severely infected.

She said the clinical doctor was uncertified and didn’t show any responsibility for his work.

The model whose name was withheld said she had always dreamed of having larger breasts and finally took the advice of an acquaintance who recommended her to have filler shots carried out by a cosmetic doctor in Ladprao area two years ago.

The said doctor informed her that the filler he used was legally imported from abroad and was of the highest quality and would easily last for 5 – 6 years.

She stated that he had charged her 100,000 baht for the operation.

But she said only three months after the operation, her bosom had become infected and swollen.

She returned to the same doctor to have the filler removed but he had instead injected an unknown substance which he said would dissolve the filler.

The injected substance however caused even more infection and resulted in severe wounds that were filled with pus.

She then finally decided to go to a hospital to be treated.

State hospital doctors who examined her surmised that the filler that was injected into her bosom was most certainly fake and she would have to undergo operations to have the corrupted tissue removed.

Up until the present, she has had four such operations which have cost her more than 200,000 baht but that is not the end of it as she still needs to receive continuous medical treatment.

The doctor who had injected the filler into her however denied any responsibility which forced her to file an official complaint.

She then warned all women who aspire to have cosmetic operations performed on themselves to be extra careful and study all the related details before making a decision.

All surgery carries a risk, vanity surgery is no different.

Particularly when it involves small, cheap clinics in a country where there is little if any oversight or fear of disciplinary action from the professional body and the customer is far more focused on the price than doing any research on the procedure and its risks.

p.s. if I was the 24-year old totty, I would be asking Paveena where she gets her surgery done. She must be around 80 now but still looks not a day over 51.

"She said the clinical doctor was uncertified and didn’t show any responsibility for his work."

Well Duh!!! Instead of researching the "doctor", she takes the advice of a friend with no medical training. One has to be an utter fool to not check up on the qualifications of a practitioner before undergoing any medical procedure. Especially when she probably chose this individual because he was the cheapest one she could afford..

That's why they have certification for many professions. To ensure professional and safety standards. Of course a medical procedure that introduces a foreign substance into the body can be dangerous, and even with the proper training and attention to professional standards, things can go wrong. With someone who is unqualified to perform this procedure (assuming that this is a legitimate procedure), there is a much greater chance of something going wrong.

Someone who has not gone through the process of proper training and certification is already exhibiting his lack of responsibility.

I feel bad for her, but undergoing a potentially dangerous elective medical procedure by an unqualified practitioner in order to meet the sexist standards of a shallow universal male ideal, shows a total lack of responsibility to oneself.

Out of possibly hundreds of thousand of breast augmentation one or 2 goes wrong, it is still within the

calculated risk factors, the issue here is the responsibility of the doctors to remedy the situation, and

breast's repair job are not too hard to do to a satisfactory results... so really, Thais doctors bashings

in this case, is unnecessary....

Based on the birthday from her wiki page she should be 66yo..

there is a saying: if you buy cheap you will get cheap.

Unfortunately most Thais trust the doctors. Doctors here are sometimes surprised, upset or angry when being asked for procedures or medication. Side effects is not any issue.

Ask you doctor about the operation and the risks and also ask for his experience. Referees? What are his qualifications?

Supposed this girl didn't ask anything but the price.

Those seeking elective, cosmetic procedures should always satisfy themselves that the person offering these procedures is Qualified, Licensed and experienced.

Botched up cosmetic surgeries are as old as the hills. Even celebrities get messed up at times, yet people mostly women still take the risks for the sake of vanity.

I do feel sorry for the girl, but they should understand the risks involved.

Just as botched up other procedures are as old as the hills. Surgery of any type is risky, some procedures more than others, but none without risk.

No stats, but I'd venture to say that infection post surgery is probably similar, regardless of the procedure.

A woman died recently in Australia during cosmetic surgery, and a former colleague's daughter died as a result of infection post tummy tuck surgery a few years ago. Happens all over the world.......unfortunately.

I suspect this might be the same GP Doctor (not s licensed surgeon) who had British woman die in his OR while having silicone removed from her buttocks . I think he is back in business although the name of clinic has changed twice

Steep price for low self-esteem. As per usual. Get well soon. You went to see the wrong doctor. You needed a psychologist. Maybe now more than ever. Being vain is costly. Tragic.

Looks like there's been too many big booboos that all wish would just go away!

Notice that the broadcaster we can trust is careful not to mention the doctor’s name (probably for fear of litigation), even though they should have a duty of care to other gullible people!

Ample opportunity for an exposé, as they report that State hospital doctors surmised the filler was most certainly fake. Even more so, if as alleged, the “doctor” was uncertified!

Be interesting to see if TAT get involved too, as this goes beyond just a domestic issue, given the large number of medical tourists visiting Thailand (see http://www.tourismthailand.org/See-and-Do/Activities/Medical-Tourism).
