Russia vows to hunt down airliner bombers and steps up strikes on ISIL in Syria

MOSCOW: -- Russia says it has stepped up airstrikes against ISIL militants after the Kremlin accepted that it was a bomb that brought down a Russian airliner over Egypt last month killing all 224 people on board.

President Vladimir Putin visited the Russian Defence Ministry’s command centre on Tuesday evening and told his military to cooperate with France.

“Very soon a French navy fleet, headed by an aircraft carrier, will arrive in your area of operation,” Putin said. “You need to establish a direct contact with the French and work with them as allies.”

Putin has vowed to hunt down those responsible for the bombing of its airliner over Sinai, and its clear he has ISIL militants in mind since strikes in Syria have already intensified.

Until Tuesday Russia had played down the assertion from other Western countries that the plane was destroyed by an explosion.

But at a news conference in the resort of Sharm-al-Sheik where the downed passenger jet took off from, the Egyptian government was still hesitating to say there was anything wrong with its security procedures.

“When we discover that there was a security lapse we’ll take the necessary measures,” said the Interior Minister, Abdel Ghaffar. “However up until now there is no evidence there was any lapse in travel procedures or security inspections.”

But Egypt did say it would work with Russia to combat terrorism and increase international cooperation on the issue. As far as its own investigation is concerned it said it still had not reached a conclusion.

It's good to see Putin starting to focus on killing IS although the master's convoluted route to this new and excellent purpose was unnecessarily torturous.

Doesn't matter at all who kills IS cause once they're dead they're dead. It is truly the case the only good IS is a dead IS.

Doubtful however it will keep the bogeyman from Putin's door. If IS follows through on its menacing threats against Russia, Russians will get a new opportunity to brag about how well they endure more suffering and misery. It seems to be a matter of national and ethnic pride over there. Sort of a mass machismo. Hit me again, I'm tough, I can take it. I guess it's a Russian thing

Yes Russia, join the chorus line of countries that 'Vows' to eradicate and stop ISIS,

while those sand's bandits making a mockery of the best police security measures

put in place to stop them....

Yes you have to love the political posturing that goes on. Putin's quote ""We will not wipe tears from our heart and soul. This will remain with us forever," and Hollandes "We will pursue them mercilessly" Yes I condemn these cowardly attacks but sorry these sort of blustery comments have become repetitious and time worn over my long life time. Actions will speak louder than words. Get to it. Love the sand bandits comment.

Putin didn't show any sympathy or cooperation with the downing of MH17 in Ukraine after being hit by a Russian-made Buk missile. Crash investigators were prevented to immediately inspect the site of the crash by pro-Russian insurgents which Putin could have expedited.

But when Russians are killed in another attacked aircraft he becomes a crusader for justice. Maybe in a twist of fate the downing of A321 will give him a lesson in consciousness.

He had a lot of leverage there. Which wasn't used. Hate to wish ill will on anybody, but you should reap what you sow.

Best police security measures?????

USA is sending them weapons (to the moderate Islamists that fight Assad but they always end with ISIS)

Saudi Arabia weapons and money. Turkey is buying their oil and maybe support them when they fight with the Kurds

We make a big problem for an 80 year old with a "Hello Kitty" Fingernail clipper and typical Thai who makes a joke with the stewardess, BUT we let in migrants from all over the world into Schengen Europe without any check, no document check, no finger prints, no nothing. We let areas in Brussels and Paris become kind of no go areas for the natives and let some Imans openly bragging how they will conquer Europe by shift of the population.

So there aren't the best police security measures put in place. They make some hassle for obvious normal people and let Islamists do what they want.

hot air, Russia doesn't have the ability to track down those responsible. They do have lots of bombs they can drop somewhere and look like they are doing something. I bet they don't kill one baddy per bomb dropped.

Sure, Russia cannot hunt down those responsible. Hot air.

Yesterday night I found out that at least two ex-SAS Brits in a Pattaya bar knew how its can be done properly. 555

Indeed, didn't see Putin showing any tears over it or having his scientists preserve any tears back then.

Netherlands btw didn't threaten to blow up Russians and Russia either. Maybe they should have so that Nato could go in there and finish the place off, start it over again.

Russia since WWOne has collapsed and re-formed itself more times than China has had to do over there. China's been disastrous about it and each collapse and regrouping in Russia has been worse than before. Thinking of the next Russia after Putin can be pretty grim stuff.

These Putin fanboyz who like leaders for life get instead a life full of leaders of chaos and misery. Think Assad and that nasty dynasty as yet another one.
